After losing seven seniors in 2020, BYU looked to be on the brink of a rebuilding season. But this year’s team included a healthy influx of talented transfers—including, from left, starters Brandon M. A. Averette (’21), Matt Haarms (’21), and Alex M. Barcello (’21). The NCAA tourney finished second in the West Coast Conference.

7-foot-3 Amsterdam native Matt Haarms is the tallest on the team. The shot-blocking specialist was the first Cougar to be named WCC Defensive Player of the Year.
