Book of Mormon stories that . . . a microscope shows to me? As a recent outreach project to share the capacity of new etching technology, a team of BYU engineers engraved all 1,497,482 characters in the Book of Mormon on a palm-sized silicon wafer, creating the first-ever microscopic version of the sacred text. “Like Moroni himself, we etched into this wafer so it is physically engraved,” says student Ethan S. Belliston (’23). They also plated the wafer in a thin layer of gold for nostalgia. And while “current electronic storage degrades over time,” reflects Belliston, “this will last forever.”
