Wi11_4139Basketball: Jimmertime

Jimmer T. Fredette (’11) was named to the 2011 Naismith preseason watch list and the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50. He also was named a preseason All-American by several media sources and was featured as a Hoops Hero in a DC Comics feature in Sports Illustrated’s college basketball season preview.

Cross-Country: NCAA Championship Streak

For the 12th consecutive season, the men’s cross country team competed at the NCAA National Championships, finishing 18th overall. Katelyn Bowen (’11) represented the women’s team and placed 61st.

Junior Miles B. Batty (’12) was named MWC Cross Country Male Athlete of the Year following his first-place 8K finish at the MWC Championships—his third win of the season. In the National Championships, he took 15th overall in the 10K.

Football: Hard to Keep a Good Man Down

Despite his early-season injury, Riley K. Nelson (’13) was named to the 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team in honor of his academic performance and service, including work with the Heart2Home Foundation and the Boy Scouts of America. Only 11 athletes are awarded this honor each year.

Soccer: MWC Champs

The women’s soccer team took the 2010 MWC Championship title and was ranked 17th nationally. Jessica V. Ringwood (’13) was named the MWC All-Tournament MVP. Lindsi L. Lisonbee (’13) made the NSCAA All-Pacific Region First Team; Carlee A. Payne (’13), the second team; and Kassidy Christensen Shumway (’11) and McKinzie M. Olson (’12), the third team.
