The BYU men’s basketball team beat the University of Utah for the 100th time in a home game on Feb. 28. The score was 63–50.
Soccer
Soccer forward Katie Larkin (’09) entered the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) draft, picked 19th overall by the Los Angeles Sol. This will be the WPS’s inaugural season.
Gordon Eakin
Softball
BYU softball head coach Gordon Eakin has been selected to join the 2009 Softball Women’s National Team coaching pool. Eakin is one of 14 coaches who will train with the team through 2012.
Swimming and Diving
For the eighth time in 10 years, the BYU women’s swimming and diving team claimed the MWC Championship title. The women broke 10 BYU swimming records during the competition—eight for individual events and two for relay events.

Track and Field
BYU track stars Lacey Cramer (’12) and Amy Menlove (’10) took first in their respective events at the NCAA Indoor Championship in March. Cramer, winning the women’s 800-meter race, is the first Cougar to win a national championship as a freshman. Menlove won the pentathalon. The BYU women’s track team finished third overall—its highest NCAA indoor track ranking to date. Finishing fourth in the women’s 800, Katie Palmer (’11) also secured All-America honors, as did the men’s distance medley relay team (placing fifth) and weight-thrower Leif H. Arrhenius (’10) (placing 11th).
The men’s and women’s track and field teams both placed first at the MWC Indoor Championship in February. R. Craig Poole, the women’s coach, was named MWC Coach of the Year at the competition. The men’s team, scoring 224 points, finished with their best championship score in more than 30 years.
