Gymnastics

The Cougars missed a trip to nationals by the narrowest of margins after finishing the regular season ranked No. 11. The BYU women’s gymnastic team set new school records in their meets this season–their best score was a 197.375, in a second-place finish against Utah. In that meet, BYU set or tied five school records, including new team highs on the vault and the beam. In the all-around competition, All-American Kelly Parkinson, ’02, tied the school record she set a week earlier with a 39.625.

Women’s soccer

Natalyn Lewis, ’00, received her first All-America citation, being named to the NSCAA Scholar Athlete Team, the first such honor for the BYU women’s soccer program.

Football

The National Football Foundation has selected BYU All-American and NFL MVP Steve Young, ’84, for induction to the College Football Hall of Fame. Young is the fourth BYU quarterback to be inducted–following S. Gifford Nielsen, ’77, Marc D. Wilson, ’80, and James R. McMahon, ’82.
