Largest Match Ever

Alumni and friends of BYU at ExxonMobil Corporation have contributed to the largest corporate-employee matching donation ever received by BYU. Thirty-nine current and retired employees at ExxonMobil donated a total of $28,380. The company matches employee contributions at a ratio of 3-to-1, bringing the total to $113,520. The BYU Annual Fund gift-matching program added an additional $15,480, bringing the final total to $129,000.

Blue-ribbon Appointment

U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige has named Thomas B. Griffith, ’78, assistant to the president and general counsel of BYU, as one of 15 members of a blue-ribbon panel formed to examine ways of strengthening enforcement of Title IX and expanding opportunities to ensure fairness for all collegiate athletes.

NSF Fellowships 

The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently announced that six BYU students are among the 901 recipients nationwide of its 2002-03 Graduate Fellowships: Matthew S. Allen, ’01, Stockton, Calif.; Scott N. Boyle, ’01, Rexburg, Idaho; Ryan G. Christensen, ’02, South Jordan, Utah; Paul S. Heaton, ’01, Montclair, Va.; Mark Edward Lyon, ’02, Ogden, Utah; and Andrew J. Poulsen, ’01, South Jordan, Utah.
