At the Sundance Film Festival in January, audiences saw something never before witnessed at the famed event—the words “A Brigham Young University Production.” Director D. Kohl Glass (BA ’03) teamed up with BYU animation students to produce Der Ostwind, a short film featuring a live-action WWI fighter pilot maneuvering through computer-animated dogfights. Der Ostwind’s unique black-and-white style, reminiscent of classic silent movies, is turning heads. On its way to Park City, the film shot down more than 4,000 competitors and garnered top honors at two other film festivals.
