Sp11_4239Changing of the Guard: Brent W. Webb (BS ’81) is BYU’s new academic vice president, replacing John S. Tanner (BA ’74), who was recently called to be a mission president. A professor of mechanical engineering, Webb previously served as associate academic vice president, a position now filled by Alan R. Harker, professor of microbiology and molecular biology.

Still No. 1U.S. News & World Report has named BYU the nation’s most popular university for the third time in the last four years. BYU topped Harvard, no. 2, and Stanford, no. 3. The ranking is based on the percentage of accepted students who go on to enroll.

SCOT’s Honor:The Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Network in Higher Education presents its sole honorary recognition, the Spirit of POD Award, only occasionally—not annually. The most recent recipient is BYU’s D. Lynn Sorenson (’92), a consultant in the Center for Teaching and Learning. Sorenson was recognized in November for her work in developing the SCOT program—Students Consulting on Teaching—which employs BYU students in giving professors feedback on their instruction. The program has been imitated on more than a dozen campuses.
