Construction Begins on New Health Center


new student health centerIn March, BYU began construction on a new health center that will be built next to Wymount Terrace Apartments. Construction on the building is expected to be completed by May 1998.

The 36,380-square-foot building will serve BYU students and missionaries at the LDS Missionary Training Center and will consist of two þoors with a partial basement. “It will feature the latest technology for ambulatory care centers in a comfortable and hospitable atmosphere,” said Val H. Christensen, administrative director of the BYU McDonald Health Center.

The new building will greatly improve the capability of the clinical staff, Christensen said. “Students will beneÞt with shorter waiting times, comfortable waiting areas, improved examination areas, and excellent medical technology.”

If necessary, the new health center will also be able to serve the community as a fully operational emergency unit, said Ed Cozzens, assistant administrative vice president of the Physical Facilities Division at BYU.
