As a young boy growing up near Salt Lake City, E. Kimbal Warren (BFA ’78) learned that he had a gift for drawing. His love for painting Western landscapes was shaped by his fine arts degree from BYU; the influence of painters like A. Valoy Eaton (BA ’60, MA ’71), John Hafen, and Maynard Dixon (among others); and a love of horses inspired by his in-laws. Warren’s drive to explore often leads him into remote country terrain with packhorses and paintbrushes. Those trips to Wyoming’s Wind River Range and the Tetons, southern Utah, and other wild places often become the subjects of his award-winning art.
Warren has also painted landscape art for temples, from the Philippines to Argentina and from Cincinnati to Switzerland. He loves to find what is unique to each place so that patrons will feel connected to the surrounding environment while serving in the temple.
