BYU will celebrate Homecoming this fall with opening ceremonies on Tuesday, Oct. 5, and a busy week of events, culminating in a football game against San Diego State on Saturday, Oct. 9. The entire week focuses on the theme Dare to Discover, which reflects the legacy of Harvey Fletcher (BS 1907), this year’s honored founder.
“Harvey Fletcher was a man of discovery who never shied away from tackling big questions,” says John C. Lewis (BA 
’77), BYU’s associate advancement vice president and the executive director of the Homecoming committee. “We looked for a theme that encompassed not only the curiosity that underlies discovery, but also the unbridled courage that brings results. We can’t all be the father of stereophonic sound. But we can all continually dare to discover the significant truths that enrich our lives.”
During Homecoming, alumni are invited to rediscover their alma mater, whether attending reunions, the Spectacular, the parade, or any of the other offerings.
Tuesday of Homecoming week will include the opening ceremonies, a free student barbecue, and a hike to light the Y. Wednesday and Thursday will feature noonday activities, a Mr. BYU contest, and honored alumni lectures hosted by each college.
In an event-filled week, Homecoming 2010 will celebrate BYU’s heritage and influence, from the opening ceremonies to the parade to Spectacular to the football game.
Homecoming Spectacular, featuring various BYU performing groups, will be a highlight of the week, with shows Thursday and Friday evening in the Marriott Center. On Friday, alumni, students, and friends will also enjoy noonday activities, reunions, and Homecoming dances.
Homecoming will wrap up Saturday, Oct. 9, after a full day that includes a Kids Race, the Cougar Run, a free blue-pancake breakfast, the parade, two tailgate parties, the football game, reunions, and dances.
