Alumni Notes

BYU Day

In April, more than 400 graduates and their families found a new way to celebrate graduation. For three hours following the Thursday commencement exercises, the Assembly Hall in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center hosted BYU Day, with food, dancing, and a video of BYU highlights. BYU Day offers families a place to celebrate their graduates’ accomplishments. “It was absolutely delightful to see families create their own mini reunions in celebrating this milestone together,” says Julie Hatchett, program coordinator.

Parents on Campus

Parents and family members will join their students on campus Oct. 24–26 for Parents Weekend, which will include a Blue-au (rhymes with luau), a reception in the Museum of Art, a tailgate party, and the football game against UNLV. Also planned are behind-the-scenes tours that will include theater and media arts sites, Special Collections at the Harold B. Lee Library, and the Student Athlete Center and Legacy Hall. A family 5K run and a hike to the Y are also included in the weekend, and parents are invited to attend classes and church meetings with their students.

“This tradition has become an anticipated event for hundreds of our students and parents,” says Curtis C. Isaak (BA ’92), who coordinates the program. “It’s a wonderful way to experience BYU through a series of cultural, educational, athletic, and entertainment exchanges.”
