IN a creative use of recycled materials, the banner holders that greeted the world during the Salt Lake Olympic Games decorated the BYU campus for Homecoming 2002. The annual celebration was nearly impossible to miss with 120 blue and white banners on campus, each highlighting a Homecoming event or listing the calendar.
“We have received many comments about how festive it all looked,” says Roy S. Peterman, ’72, BYU grounds maintenance director. Peterman’s crew arranged to receive the donated materials from the Olympics and adapt them to campus.
At the center of campus stood an open-air pavilion (below) made of large metal signs—also Olympic leftovers—linked to a center pole by blue, white, and gold ribbons.
