The bell tower chimes nine times on a cold Veteran’s Day morning as BYU’s Army and Air Force ROTC cadets stand at solemn attention. The flag is positioned at half-staff outside the Daniel H. Wells ROTC Building, and onlookers here, and inside the Wilkinson Student Center’s Memorial Hall, pause, hands over hearts. The sound of trumpeters playing taps echoes across campus, touching the hearts of many as they hear the names of BYU alumni who gave their lives in the cause of freedom. Then with a “hup, two, three, four,” the cadets chant as they march across campus to Brigham Square for the annual presidential review, carrying on a tradition long part of BYU Patriots Week. | Photography: Bradley Slade
