1958 | C. Paul Andersen (BA ’58, MA ’59, PhD ’73; Kathleen Ramsay [BS ’59]; Roy, Utah) retired in 1994 as dean of fine arts and director of theatre at Dixie State College. He has published two novels:Final Act and A Voice in the Night. 1961 | Clifford R. Birrell (BA ’61, MA University of California, Los Angeles ’72; Shirley Gibson [BS ’58]; Ephraim, Utah) has been elected mayor of Ephraim, Utah.

[BS ’65]; Salt Lake City) has joined the law firm Parsons Behle & Latimer as a shareholder in the environmental, energy, and natural resources department.


1966 | Mick Reber (BA ’66, MA ’68; Mary; Los Fresnos, Texas), a professor emeritus from Fort Lewis College, is showing 40 works at the St. George Art Museum in Utah.

1970 | Alan V. Funk (BS ’70; Judy Butterfield [BS ’69]; Orem, Utah) has published the book Choosing Ethical Excellence.

1973 | Don M. Cheney (BFA ’73, MS University of Redlands ’03; Catherine; Simi Valley, Calif.) was named Web manager for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to coordinate operations with NASA headquarters and other NASA centers. Blair J. Packard (BS ’73, MS Duke University ’76; Cindy Oakley [’74]; Gilbert, Ariz.) has received a 2006 Crystal Award for his work in physical therapy. The Crystal Awards honor individuals and organizations in Arizona for community service.

1975 | William B. Spelts (BS ’75; Joanne Wolsey [BS ’75]; Henderson, Nev.) was promoted to auditor II with the Nevada Department of Taxation and named departmental employee of the year.

1977 | David L. White (BS ’77; Nicole Davis [BS ’77]; Pleasanton, Calif.) was named vice president of marketing of the Greater Colorado Springs Economic Development Corp.

1978 | Steven L. Nissle (BS ’78; Dianne Curtis [BS ’77]; Mesa, Ariz.) has earned a master of photography degree from Professional Photographers of America. David T. Lisonbee (BA ’78, MBA ’93; Bianca Palmieri [BA ’76]; Orem, Utah), founder and CEO of 4Life Research, has been inducted into the Russian Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences.

1980 | Reid V. Nuttall (BS ’80, MBA ’81; Carolyn Cox [BS ’83]; Magnolia, Texas) was named vice president of the new enterprise information and performance division of the OGE Energy Corp.

1982 | John G. Peters (BA ’82, MA ’84, MPhil Columbia University ’88, PhD Pennsylvania State University ’96; Deanna; Denton, Texas) received tenure and was named associate professor of English at the University of North Texas. His 2001 book, Conrad and Impressionism, took the second place 2005 Adam Gillon Book Award in Conrad Studies from the Joseph Conrad Society
of America.


1983 | Thomas R. Taylor (MBA ’83, JD Arizona State University ’87; Pamela; Salt Lake City), a partner in the international law firm Holme Roberts & Owen, has been named one of the best corporate lawyers in Utah
by Utah Business magazine.


1984 | Cortney S. Brewerton (BA ’84, MPA Webster University ’95; Ilena; Suffolk, Va.) has retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He is a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal.

1986 | Steven D. Dorsey (BA ’86, MA ’91; Rachel; Manassas, Va.) joined Project Hope, an international humanitarian organization, as regional director of Latin America. Darrin J. Olsen (BS ’86, MBA ’89; Denise Glines [BS ’86]; Canton, Mich.), manager of corporate business development for Ford Motor Co., co-led the team that sold Hertz for $15 billion—the second-largest leveraged buyout in U.S. history. Jeanne Marie Robison (BA ’86, JD University of Utah ’94; Salt Lake City) has been appointed a judge with the Salt Lake City Justice Court. Greg A. Tunney (BS ’86, EMBA Harvard University ’96; Heidi Hansen [BS ’86]; Carlsbad, Calif.) has been named president and COO of Dearfoams, a slipper company.

1987 | Scott A. Strobel (BS ’87, PhD California Institute of Technology ’92; Lynnette Moncur [BS ’87]; Hamden, Conn.) has been appointed chair of the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University. In 2004 he was awarded the university’s Dylan Hixon Prize for Teaching Excellence in the Natural Sciences.

Bennett (BA ’88, MA ’93; Michelle; Salt Lake City), president and CEO of HealthInsight, was elected to serve as the 2007 national president of the American Health Quality Association.Mikel A. Minor (BA ’88; Teresa Jones [’93], Sacramento, Calif.) has joined ESPN in Bristol, Conn., as coordinating producer for studio productions, including ESPNews and SportsCenter. Stefania Sawacki Shaffer (BA ’88; Lodi, Calif.), a seventh-grade teacher of English language arts, has published the novel Heroes Don’t Always Wear Capes, a tribute to extraordinary teachers. Mark W. Staff (’88; Lisa; Hilton Head Island, S.C.) had 19 images featured in the summer 2006 issue of Inside Weddings.

1991 | Paul D. Abbott (BS ’91, MEM ’92; Denise Kuehne [BS ’87]; Orem, Utah) has joined AtTask, a provider of project-management software, as its first vice president of marketing. Renee Werner Keddington (BA ’91; Cris; Loveland, Colo.) has been named Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions 2005 National Trainer of the Year. Rebecca Ann Wells (BA ’91, Plano, Texas) received a master’s degree in counseling from Amberton University in May 2005.

1992 | Richard O. Giberson (BS ’92; Linda Smith [BA ’92]; Grapevine, Texas) was named managing director at CCA Strategies and is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

1994 | Andre D. Cummings (BS ’94; Silver Spring, Md.), a West Virginia University law professor, has won a WVU Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award. Michael S. Gardner (BA ’94, JD George Washington University ’97; Dallas) has been named an equity partner of the law firm Bickel & Brewer. Sean D. Reyes (BA ’94, JD University of California, Berkeley ’97; Saysha Fawson [BA ’94]; Salt Lake City) was named Young Lawyer of the Year by the Utah State Bar.

1995 | G. Paul Digoy (BA ’95, MD Cornell University ’99; Dianna Harms [BS ’94]; Edmond, Okla.) completed a pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at Children’s Hospital Boston and accepted a faculty position at the University of Oklahoma. Jeffrey L. Cutler (BS ’95, MD Tulane University ’00; Kristi Buchanan [’94]; Franklin, Tenn.) completed a residency at Vanderbilt University in otolaryngology and a fellowship in rhinology. He will practice and teach at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

1998 | Michael J. Davidson (BS ’98, JD University of Tulsa ’02, LLM University of Utah ’03; Angela; Las Vegas) has joined Nevada Power as senior counsel.

1999 | David B. Bowman (BFA ’99; Natalie Randall [BS ’00]; Gilbert, Ariz.) has written and illustrated Who’s Your Hero? Book of Mormon Stories Applied to Children, Vol. 1.

2000 | Emmet R. Scott (BS ’00; Michelle Tolboe [BA ’01]; Houston) is the first male to be named to the board of directors of American Mothers of Nevada. Scott is also a strategic wealth coach for Capstone Capital Financial Strategies. Mario L. S. Silva (MBA ’00; Rejane; Provo) has accepted a position with the Church of Jesus Christ as a regional acquisitions manager in South America for the Family History Department.

2002 | Arianne Baadsgaard Cope (BA ’02; Jared; Logan, Utah) won the $1,000 Marilyn Brown Novel Award from the Association for Mormon Letters for her unpublished manuscript The Coming of Elijah. Maren Robinson Parry (BA ’02; Brandon [BA ’02]; Las Vegas) has been named an associate with the law firm Curran & Parry.

2003 | Curtis S. Gasser (BA ’03; Carolyn Irvine [BA ’03]; Midvale, Utah) has been named senior account executive at Politis Communications. Justin M. Hayward (BFA ’03; Marci Stirling [’02]; Bountiful, Utah), a part-time BYU faculty member, is one of seven finalists in the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, sponsored by the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. His portrait Young Marriage will be on display in the gallery through February 2007.
