BYU will offer a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) course for university credit, beginning fall semester 1996. The course will be for women only and will provide one-half credit for physical education requirements.
The RAD system teaches self-defense tactics and techniques. The five certified RAD instructors, who are members of BYU’s police force, will stress rape awareness, prevention, risk reduction, avoidance, and hands-on defense training.
The course also offers a comprehensive reference manual, a litigation defense policy, and a lifetime membership policy–meaning that any member of the class is welcome to return to the class and practice at any time.
The RAD system is the only self-defense program sponsored by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.
