varsity theater change

The Varsity Theater in BYU’s Wilkinson Student Center, once a movie venue, is now a space being used for university programming needs. Declining attendance at the theater’s movie offerings and a growing need for classroom and programming space motivated the change, according to David A. Hunt, assistant administrative vice president for Student Auxiliary Services.

The theater has long been used as a space for student wards, a secondary screening site for forums and devotionals, and a location for lectures and other events.

The space will retain its movie screen, projection booth, and projector for movie screenings on special occasions, said Hunt.

internet protocol phones

BYU is installing a state-of-the-art Internet Protocol (IP) telephone system, replacing the 13-year-old PBX-style phone system currently in use across campus. The IP phone system, which transports voice, data, and video over a single network, should be in place by the spring of 2002.
