The associate editor of Brigham Young Magazine, Carri P. Jenkins, has been appointed assistant director of BYU’s Public Communications Department. Jenkins fills a vacancy created when Brent Harker was named director of that department. Jeffrey S. McClellan has been hired as the new associate editor for the magazine.
Jenkins began working at BYU Today in 1983 as the assistant editor. During more than 11 years with the magazine, she edited the news sections, wrote features on topics ranging from teenage suicide to high fashion at BYU, was promoted to associate editor, and helped guide the magazine through its transition to the current format as Brigham Young Magazine.
Harker has a long history of news journalism, including time spent as a reporter for the Deseret News and The Lethbridge Herald, where he was promoted to assistant city editor and region editor. He joined the Public Communications staff at BYU in 1983 as assistant director and was later promoted to associate director.
In his new position, Harker takes over for Margaret Smoot, former assistant vice president over University Communications, who left BYU to pursue private business interests.
McClellan comes to BYU from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where he recently completed a master’s degree in magazine publishing. Prior to his graduate studies, McClellan attended BYU and worked as an intern at Brigham Young Magazine and the International Magazines of the LDS Church.
