Traditions Ball
The Traditions Ball, for both students and alumni, is scheduled for April 10 in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center.
Alumni Awards Nominations
Each year BYU honors alumni who have made significant contributions to BYU, their profession, family, or church. The university also acknowledges non-alumni who have given service to BYU. The nominations deadline is Feb. 26.
Food Drive Record
In the 2009 BYU/University of Utah food drive, BYU set a new record for itself, raising $55,285 and collecting 160,318 pounds of food, far exceeding its goals. Hundreds of volunteers and various campus entities helped with the drive.
Ward Party
In 1956 the first BYU student stake was created with 12 wards. Now one of those wards is having a party. Raymond E. Beckham (BS ’49) is the last surviving bishop of the original BYU student wards. For seven years (1956–63), Beckham was bishop of the BYU Ninth Ward, which met in the Joseph Smith Building Banquet Hall. The Alumni Association will host a reunion for all ward members during Beckham’s tenure as bishop at noon on Aug. 21, the Saturday following Education Week. The ward boundaries included residents of Wymount Village’s D-Dorm no. 7 and Heritage Halls’ Shipp and Robison Halls, as well as students living south of Center Street in Provo.
