At the Annual University Conference in August, President Cecil O. Samuelson announced that the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities had notified BYU that the university’s accreditation had been reaffirmed. BYU received commendations in six areas: the design and maintenance of buildings and grounds; the strength of the McKay School of Education’s Educator Preparation Program; the institutional support for the Lee and Hunter libraries; the effective use of information technology; the significant mentoring and research opportunities available for undergraduate students; and BYU’s commitment to foreign-language instruction.
