“When you start a true freshman quarterback, who knows what you’re going to get?” says BYU Sports Nation’s Jarom T. Jordan (BA ’09). Anticipation was high for the 2025 season of Cougar football, and the caliber of play proved even higher.

A standout star? That brand new starting quarterback, Michael “Bear” Bachmeier (’29), pictured leaping over a Utah defensive tackle as he ran through the defense for a 22-yard touchdown.

Highlights include the Cougs’ first Big 12 title game, beating Utah (again), finishing the regular season 11-2, and a come-from-behind win at the Pop-Tarts Bowl. Head coach Kalani F. Sitake’s (BA ’00) position was secured with a long-term deal. “The future is super bright,” says Jordan.
