IN this age of junk mail, phone mail, and e-mail, it seems mailboxes—both physical and electronic—are often full of information we don’t need. Aware that BYU sometimes contributes to the communication tsunami, the university administration has created a consolidated communications tool.
MyBYU News is a customizable monthly e-mail newsletter that allows users to select what news they wish to receive. With some 100 options representing nearly every major entity on campus, MyBYU News brings many BYU information providers together in one place. Available information areas include academic departments, athletic teams, BYU broadcasting, performing arts groups, the Alumni Association, continuing-education services, the BYU Bookstore, and FARMS.
“MyBYU News is a conduit for all of your BYU-related news,” says Michael R. Walker, ’90, editor of MyBYU News and an associate editor of BYU Magazine. “It includes information directly from the sources, and it is frequent enough that you can feel like you’re really staying in touch. We see it as a companion to BYU Magazine. The magazine provides in-depth articles on selected topics every three months; MyBYU News is your monthly link to everything you’re interested in on campus.”
As a summary-and-link style newsletter like LDS Daily News, MyBYU News is an index to BYU information on the Internet. Each mailing includes a core of general university news, information from the entities the user has selected, and a BYU events calendar that can be tailored to particular activities in a specific geographic area.
MyBYU News is produced by information providers across campus and coordinated by the staff of BYU Magazine.
