Top Predator

Cosmo Cougar

The Cougars clawed through a mass of opponents to stand supreme in the predator category of CBS Sportsline’s 2007 Most Dominant College Mascot competition. In more than six weeks of online voting, college sports fans from around the country rallied behind their favorite team mascots from four groups: humans, inanimates/mythological creatures, predators, and land animals. The Cougars overpowered the University of Michigan Wolverines, the Boston College Eagles, the California Golden Bears, and the New Mexico Lobos to reign with the top mascots from each category.

Now Cosmo is in the ring, needing votes from Cougar fans. He’s competing in the Capital One Mascot Open, an 11-week popularity contest against 11 other mascots. The challenge has brought fame and fortune to Cosmo, who starred in the competition’s national ads and landed $5,000 for BYU’s mascot program just for participating. He has a chance to win $5,000 more if he comes out on top.

Cosmo battles a new rival online every week up until Nov. 26, when the six mascots with the greatest win/loss records will go on to compete in a three-week face-off to capture the title of Capital One Mascot of the Year.
