Basketball: Top Point Guard
Sporting News Magazine named Jimmer T. Fredette (’11) the nation’s top point guard heading into the 2010–11 season. Over the summer Fredette and 19 other top college players joined the USA Basketball Select Team to train with the U.S. National Team.
Diving: One Reverse and Two Twists Seal Title
Brandon D. Watson (’12) won the 1-meter springboard competition at the AT&T National Diving Championships.
Football: Best Poster
The College Sports Information Directors of America named the 2009 Cougar football poster the best of its kind in the nation. The poster features photography by Mark A. Philbrick (BA ’75) and design by David O. Broberg (BS ’97).
Golf: Back for More
After a post-BYU career on the LPGA Tour, Carrie Summerhays Roberts (BS ’02) is the new head women’s golf coach.
Softball: Bright Futures
Catcher Jessica Purcell-Fitu (’12) started for the USA Softball Women’s Futures National Team at the 2010 KFC World Cup of Softball.
Track and Field: Farewell to Poole
After 30 seasons, R. Craig Poole retired as head women’s track and field coach to become head coach for the USA Track and Field Resident Program at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center in California. Replacing Poole is women’s cross country head coach Patrick E. Shane (BS ’70), who will now coach both women’s teams.
