POSTED on Brandon L. Mull’s (BA ’00) refrigerator is a fortune-cookie prediction. When Mull cracked open the cookie, the slip of paper told him he’d someday be a New York Times bestselling author. In May 2007 Mull’s second book, Fablehaven: Rise of the Evening Star, debuted at no. 8 on the New York Times bestseller list in the children’s hardcover category. But that wasn’t to be the end of his New York Times accolades. In October 2007 Mull’s first book, Fablehaven, came in at no. 6 on the New York Times bestseller list in the children’s paperback category. Avi Arad, producer for such blockbuster movies as Spider-Man and the X-Men films, has optioned the film rights to the fantasy series. And production company New Regency has acquired film rights for Mull’s latest book, The Candy Shop War.
