1970 | Roger B. Porter (BA ’70, MA Harvard University ’78, PhD Harvard University ’78; Ann Robinson [’74]; Belmont, Mass.) has been appointed a member of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships. He also has been named director of the Center for Business and Government at Harvard University.

1974 | Kenneth G. Taylor (BS ’74, BBA Idaho State University ’77, MBA Idaho State University ’77; Karma; Idaho Falls, Idaho) is the owner and president of the CPA firm Taylor and Company. He also serves as president of the Idaho Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Idaho Falls Rotary Club.

1975 | J. Michael McGuire (BA ’75, JD University of the Pacific ’83; Sharon; Rocklin, Calif.) was made a new partner and special counsel at Archer Norris.

1976 | David A. LaBonte (BA ’76; Rosemary; Irvine, Calif.), president of the advertising agency AdMatrix, has published Shiny Objects Marketing through John Wiley and Sons.

1978 | Daniel L. Harris (BA ’78, JD University of Oregon ’82; Susan; Ashland, Ore.) was elected president of the Oregon Circuit Court Judges Association.

1979 | David M. Samson (BA ’79, MA Western State College ’88; Janet Simpson [AS ’78, BGS ’05]; Rifle, Colo.) retired from Garfield RE-2 School District after 30 years of teaching and administration. He was elected to the board of county commissioners for Garfield County, Colo.

1981 | Barbara Howell (BA ’81; Los Angeles) was honored with a Women in Business Award from Southern California legislators for her work at the Burbank Temporary Aid Center. She was also named Citizen of the Year by the Burbank Association of Realtors.

1982 | A. William “Bill” Elliott Jr. (BA ’82; Lana; Valencia, Calif.), the senior director at NBC Universal, wrote, directed, and produced the show Making “The Last Templar.”

1986 | Greg A. Tunney (BS ’86, EMBA Harvard University ’96; Heidi Hansen [BS ’86]; New Albany, Ohio), president and chief executive officer of the R.G. Barry Corporation, rang the NASDAQ Stock Market’s closing bell, moving the company’s common stock from the American Stock Exchange to NASDAQ.

1987 | Brian T. Hansen (BA ’87, JD University of Virginia ’90; Stacy Clark [BA ’88]; Boise, Idaho) was elected into the partnership of Holland and Hart law firm.

1988 | Kenneth M. Palombo (BA ’88, BA ’88, JD University of Tennessee ’91; Beth Clark [BS ’89]; Franklin, Tenn.) has been named chief operating officer at Armor Correctional Health Services, where he oversees the increase of technology in health care facilities in jails and prisons.

1989 | Robert N. Blanchard (BS ’89; Midori; Escondido, Calif.) received the Consumer Electronics Association Technology Leadership Award.

1990 | Renee Buchanan Tribe (BA ’90; Troy [’93]; Lindon, Utah) has been hired as a financial services advisor with Intermountain Financial Group.

1992 | Sterling W. Nielsen (BS ’92, MAcc ’92; Stephanie Kauffman [’93]; South Jordan, Utah) has been promoted to chief executive officer of Mountain America Credit Union. He has served previously as executive vice president and chief administrative officer.

Bustos (BA ’94, JD Texas Tech University ’00; Holley; Lubbock, Texas) comanaging partner of McCleskey, Harriger, Brazill, and Graf, has been appointed chair of the Court Advisory Committee of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. J. David Pearce (BA ’94, JD University of Utah ’97; Alison; Bountiful, Utah) was appointed general counsel, vice president, and corporate secretary for Beneficial Financial Group, where he had served as legal counsel and chief compliance officer.

1996 | Matthew S. Petersen (BA ’96, JD University of Virginia ’99; Wendy Spencer [BS ’96]; Vienna, Va.) was nominated by former U.S. president George W. Bush and confirmed to be the vice chairman of the U.S. Federal Election Commission.

1997 | Robert E. Ferguson Jr. (BA ’97, MD University of Virginia ’01; Andrea; Salt Lake City) joined the Intermountain Medical Group and opened his practice at the Intermountain Plastic Surgery Center, where his emphasis is cancer reconstruction. Norma Jean Gile (BS ’97; Logan, Utah) a nurse at Cache Valley Cardiology, completed a certificate in Core Public Health Concepts from the University of North Carolina.

1998 | Timothy R. Kennedy (BA ’98, MBA University of Utah ’03; Melanie McLean [JD ’99]; Redmond, Wash.) has joined the Microsoft Corporation as a senior marketing manager for Windows worldwide. W. James Jacob (BA ’98, MA ’01, MOB ’01, PhD University of California ’04; Natalie Criddle [BA ’00]; Pittsburgh, Pa.) coedited the book Inequality in Education—Comparative and International Perspectives.

2000 | Brian L. Perkins (BS ’00, MAcc ’00; Lynette; Danbury, Conn.) has been promoted to audit senior manager within the Assurance and Enterprise Risk Services practice of Deloitte and Touche. Nathan W. Steed (BA ’00, JD Indiana University ’08; Sandrine; Grand Rapids, Mich.) is a new associate with Warner, Norcross, and Judd.

2001 | Brian P. Bowen (BA ’01, JD Gonzaga University ’07, LLM New York University ’08, Emily Richards [BS ’98]; Rye, N.Y.) passed the California bar exam and joined McDonough, Holland, and Allen as an associate in business services.

2002 | Zachary P. Madden (BA ’02, JD Ohio State University ’08; Kimberly Mease [BS ’04]; Perrysburg, Ohio) joined Shumaker, Loop, and Kendrick as an associate. His practice will focus on corporate law and transactions.

Taylor (BS ’03; JD The University of Akron ’08; Lori; Columbus, Ohio) passed the bar exam for the Supreme Court of Ohio.

2004 | Brooktynn Zendejas Blood (BA ’04, JD ’08; Ryan [BS ’04]; Phoenix, Ariz) joined Lewis and Roca as an associate with the law firm’s tribal affairs and gaming practice group. M. Colby Brewer (BFA ’04, MFA Pratt Institute ’07; Aniko Karmen [BA ’05]; Salt Lake City) is a visual arts fellow for the Utah Division of Arts and Museums. Richard M. Gulbrandsen Jr. (BS ’04, JD University of Virginia ’08; Melissa Jones [BS ’05]; Mesa, Ariz.) joined the Bryan Cave law firm as a new associate in its commercial litigation client service group.

2007 | Dean H. Thompson (MBA ’07; Allyson; Beverly Hills, Calif.) has joined UBS Private Wealth Management in Los Angeles. He has also received the chartered financial analyst designation.

2008 | Eric Andersen (BS ’08, Mesa, Ariz.) is an audit associate with Grant Thornton responsible for inventory testing and observations, as well as managing cash and fixed-assets accounts. Brittney Taylor Fairbourn (BS ’08, MAcc ’08; Kent [BS ’08]; Ivins, Utah) joined the staff of HintonBurdick CPAs and Advisors Business Services in St. George, Utah. Ryan W. Johnson (BS ’08, MAcc ’08; Anne Disner [BA ’07]; St. George, Utah) was hired by HintonBurdick CPAs and Advisors and assigned to the firm’s St. George office audit department.
