1960 | DeAnne Dorny Adams (BA ’60, MA University of Arizona ’63; Darryl [BA ’62]; North Potomac, Md.) was honored for service at Montgomery College, where she has been teaching English for 40 years.

1963 | Barton E. Dahneke (BES ’63; Marilyn Scott [’63]; Palmyra, N.Y.) brings a new insight to the science vs. religion dialogue with his new book, Define Universe and Give Two Examples: A Comparison of Scientific and Christian Belief.

1970 | Clark Waddoups (BA ’70, JD University of Utah ’73; Vickie; Sandy, Utah), a senior shareholder with the law firm Parr, Waddoups, Brown, Gee, and Loveless, has been nominated by President George W. Bush to serve as a federal judge with the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah.

1972 | Billy L. Knorpp (BS ’72, MS ’72; Sandra Jensen [BS ’72]; Meridian, Idaho) was honored as a West Region Solveras/NFIB Small Business Champion at the 2008 NFIB National Small-Business Summit in Washington, D.C.

1973 | Timothy R. Larsen (BA ’73, MA Salve Regina University ’88, MA Naval War College ’90; Sharon Patterson [AA ’73]; Woodbridge, Va.), a retired major general for the U.S. Marines, was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun by the Emperor of Japan for his work in strengthening the U.S.-Japan security alliance.

1974 | Robert C. Gay (’74, Lynette Nielsen [’74]; Salt Lake City), a member of the BYU President’s Leadership Council, now serves on the board of trustees for Operation Kids, an international children’s charity.

1975 | Glenn S. Parry (BS ’75, DMD Washington University in St. Louis ’76; Kathy; Green River, Wyo.), former president of the Wyoming Dental Association and the Wyoming Academy of General Dentistry, was elected chairman of the board of directors of Delta Dental Insurance of Wyoming.

1976 | Dee H. Andrews (BS ’76, PhD Florida State University ’80; Debra; Gilbert, Ariz.), has been named an Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) fellow, the highest honor given by the AFRL for technical excellence and outstanding contributions. S. Richard Tolman (BS ’76; Linda Burnett [BS ’75]; Ballwin, Mo.), CEO of the National Corn Growers Association, received the 2008 Agribusiness Leader of the Year Award from the National Agri-Marketing Association.

1979 | Kenneth L. Alford (BA ’79, MA University of Southern California ’82, MCS University of Illinois ’88, PhD George Mason University ’00; Sherilee; Springfield, Va.), who retired from the U.S. Army after serving for nearly 30 years, began teaching full-time in the fall as a BYU associate professor in the Department of Church History and Doctrine. David R. Deitrick (BA ’79; MFA University of Tennessee–Chattanooga ’93; Lori; Clarksville, Tenn.) has joined the faculty of Nossi College of Art in Nashville, Tenn. Jan Levanger Dowling (MCD ’79, BS Utah State University ’77; Highland, Utah), a speech-language pathologist with the Alpine School District, coauthored the book I Belong, about children’s ability to learn through interaction with materials and through play. Lorin J. Measom (BS ’79; Sherry Archibald [’80]; Orem, Utah) has joined Aribex, a company that produces handheld X-ray devices. He will oversee all accounting for the company.

1980 | Robert D. Hill (BS ’80, MS ’82; Debra Hepworth [BS ’80]; Salt Lake City) has written Seven Strategies for Positive Aging, which discusses how people can age productively and positively. M. Gay Taylor (BA Utah State University ’74, MS Utah State University ’75, JD ’80; Salt Lake City) retired as general counsel to the Utah State Legislature after serving in that position for 23 years.

1981 | Steven R. Izatt (BA ’81; Marianne Silander [BS ’85]; Provo), president and CEO of IBC Advanced Technologies, received the 2008 Jun-ichiro Tanaka Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Precious Metals Institute for his contributions to the advancement of the precious-metals industry. Reed B. Markham (AA ’81, BA ’81, MA ’82; Lorena; Deland, Fla.), an associate professor in communication at Daytona State College, received the Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology at the 19th International Conference on College Teaching and Learning.

He has more than 20 years of executive experience in sales and marketing. Sherman L. Fleek (BA ’82, MA University of Colorado ’95; Michel Johnson [’79]; Quicksburg, Va.), a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, was selected to be the first command historian for the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

1984 | Lane J. Lance (BA ’84; Debbie; Amman, Jordan), a U.S. Army colonel, was assigned to Amman, Jordan, as the new defense attaché and chief of the Military Assistance Program. Jonathan E. Visick (BS ’84, MS University of Washington ’85, PhD University of Washington ’91; Karen; Wheaton, Ill.) received the $1,000 Dissinger Award for faculty scholarship from North Central College for his research of protein repair in bacteria. Debbie Hippolite Wright (BSW BYU–Hawaii ’79, MSW ’84, PhD University of Waikato ’99; Chris; Salt Lake City) was named the new vice president for student development and services at BYU–Hawaii.

1985 | Brent A. Duncan (BA ’85, MA University of Phoenix ’99; Penny; Misawa, Japan) is serving as lead faculty for the University of Phoenix’s graduate-management and education departments at its Asia Pacific military campus on Misawa Air Base in Misawa, Japan.

1988 | Doug F. Jackson (BS ’88, MAcc ’92; Sharon Clark [’93]; Provo) was named the new CEO and president of the non-profit organization Deseret International Foundation, which provides life-altering surgeries around the world. Krista Ralston Oakes (BS ’88; Jared; Plano, Texas) received the Adoption Hall of Fame Award from Families Supporting Adoption, a group sponsored by LDS Family Services.

1989 | Nicholas P. Collins Jr. (BS ’89; Marian Shaw [BS ’89]; Tualatin, Ore.) has become the new president of the Oregon chapter of ASHRAE, a worldwide professional engineering society. Anthony A. Piña (AA ’88, BA ’89, MEd ’91, EdD La Sierra University ’05; Teresa; Louisville, Ky.) has been named dean of online studies for Sullivan University, Kentucky’s largest private university.

1990 | Scott R. Oakes (BA ’90; Yuba City, Calif.) was named president of No-Toil Industries, a company that creates biodegradable air-filter oil for motorcycles.

Jensen (BA ’92; Kathleen; Salem, Utah), founder and CEO of Agel Enterprises, was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Provo-Orem Chamber of Commerce and a finalist in the 2008 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year program. Marc K. Marriott (BA ’92, MFA University of California, Los Angeles ’97; Lisa Staker [BA ’94]; La Crescenta, Calif.) is producing a series of videos for the Church called We Believe, which features Latter-day Saint families showing how they live the Articles of Faith. Terri C. Mitchell (BS ’92, MEd University of Utah ’07; Sandy, Utah), an early childhood specialist at the Utah Personnel Development Center, coauthored the book I Belong,about children’s ability to learn through interaction with materials and through play. Douglas E. Tilton II (BS ’92; Fairfax, Va.) has joined Juicy Couture, a division of Liz Claiborne, as the new district manager for the mid-Atlantic region.

1993 | Kris P. Line (BS ’93; Garity; Baker City, Ore.), a supervisory special agent for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), was selected for the position of ICE assistant attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, Mexico.

Buckley (BA ’94, MA ’96, PhD University of Nebraska ’01; Rebecca Daynes [BS ’93]; Orem, Utah), a BYU associate professor of history, has written the book William Clark: Indian Diplomat, in which he examines the long and influential public career of the famed explorer. Cathy Carmode Lim (BA ’94; Marcelino [BS ’93]; Anniston, Ala.), the book page editor for Alabama newspaper the Anniston Star, founded RatedReads.com, a Web site that reviews and rates recent books. Josh D. Luke (BA ’94, MA California State University–Fullerton ’96, PhD University of Nevada ’96; Martine; Yorba Linda, Calif.), was appointed CEO of Western Medical Center. Sean D. Reyes(BA ’94, JD University of California ’97; Saysha Fawson [BA ’94]; Salt Lake City), a shareholder at Parsons, Behle, and Latimer, received an Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Award from the Asian American Business Development Center in New York City.

Codella (BA ’95; Vickey Snow [BS ’95]; Henderson, Nev.), president-elect of the Las Vegas Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators, was named the organization’s 2007 Communicator of the Year. Josh M. Reid (BS ’95, MS Yale University ’97, JD University of Arizona ’00; Tamsen Burk [BA ’93]; Salt Lake City) joined the law firm Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber, and Schreck as a shareholder. Jennifer Kekauaho Van Haaften (BS ’95; Martin; Clearfield, Utah) was one of 75 outstanding K–12 teachers from across the nation to receive the 2007 Milken Educator Award of $25,000.Nichole Evans Van Valkenburgh (BA ’95, MA ’99; David [BS ’01, MBA ’03]; Elk Ridge, Utah), a portrait photographer, received a grand award in the portrait category for a photo that was named the 2007 International Portrait of the Year by Wedding and Portrait Photographers International.

1997 | Jerica Mohlman Berge (BS ’97, MS ’99, PhD University of Minnesota ’04; Nels [BA ’97, BA ’97]; New Brighton, Minn.) received a National Institutes of Health K–12 Career Development Award through the Deborah E. Powell Cener for Women’s Health at the University of Minnesota to study family and home environment predictors of adolescent obesity.

Cann (BA ’00, MA Stony Brook University ’02, PhD Stony Brook University ’04; Athens, Ga.), an assistant professor of political science at the University of Georgia, has published Sharing the Wealth: Member Contributions and the Exchange Theory of Party Influence in the U.S. House of Representatives. Abram J.
