1954 | Richard J. Galbraith, ’54 (Sondra Richardson, ’59), Sandy, Utah, has stepped down as chair of the Intermountain Health Care Board of Trustees. He is a retired insurance industry leader and cofounder of Galbraith and Green, an insurance consulting firm.

1962 | Bart J. Morse, ’62 (Leslie Frey, ’63), Tucson, Ariz., retired as an art professor June 1, 2002, from the University of Arizona. His research included a 10-year study of ancient glyphs in Utah and Arizona.

1967 | Merrill Gappmayer, ’67, MBA ’93 (Marie), Mapleton, Utah, was named chair of the Intermountain Health Care Board of Trustees after serving on the board for 14 years.

Cynthia L. Hathaway, ’67, JD Arizona State University ’76, Arlington, Va., has been appointed chair of the department of legal administration and health-care management at Marymount University. Tony Sarver, ’67, MBA ’68 (Shirley Robertson, ’67), Liberty, Mo., was named Realtor of the Year for the 7,000-plus-member Kansas City Regional Association of Realtors.

1969 | William D. Johnston, ’69, PhD ’74 (Susan Ward, ’66), Duluth, Ga., president and chief executive officer of Inhibitex, has been appointed to the biotechnology industry organization’s emerging companies section governing body.

1970 | Sarah Blair Bennett, ’70 (Robert), Belle Glade, Fla., was recently declared teacher of the week at Glades Central Community High School. She has been a drama teacher for more than 30 years and has helped her students write and perform original plays. Pamela Norris Roach, ’70 (James, ’71), Auburn, Wash., a state senator, was given the rare opportunity of swearing in her son Dan Roach, ’98, as a member of the Washington State House of Representatives.

1971 | Connie Welch Day, ’71 (William), Afton, Wyo., was one of 10 teachers in Wyoming to receive the Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Award for Outstanding Teachers. She was also named 3A West Regional Volleyball Coach of the Year.

1973 | Kent M. Seal, ’73, DDS Georgetown University ’77 (Joyce Hill, ’74), Sandy, Utah, received his master’s degree in the Academy of General Dentistry and is one of only 1,650 dentists to have ever received it.

1975 | Terry Bohle Montague, ’75 (Quinn, ’79), Rupert, Idaho, has joined the staff of Meridian Magazine as writer and editor of the Extraordinary Stories column. Terry is a freelancer who has written for television, radio, newspaper, and magazines. Blaine Ray, ’75 (Christy Reed, ’74), Bakersfield, Calif., retired after 23 years as a high-school Spanish teacher to devote his time to training teachers in the TPR Storytelling method, an easy way to learn languages.

1979 | Joseph Downing, ’79, Syracuse, N.Y., was named associate dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts and director of the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University. He is working on a new opera titled Nauvoo.

J. Stephen Mitchell, ’79, MBA University of California, Irvine ’82 (Debra Green, ’79), Lake Oswego, Ore., is the new vice president of finance at Mercy Corps. He will collaborate with grant and program teams to ensure the organization achieves its goals.

1980 | Gary L. Christensen, ’80, Ogden, Utah, the owner of Lloyd’s Literary Service, is changing the company name to Christensen Calendar Company, with an emphasis on daily quotation calendars in its marketing. Ronald D. Hansen, ’80 (Janice Barrett, ’76), Columbus, Ohio, was named vice president by NFS Distributors of its strategic partners office in Columbus, Ohio, and is responsible for managing relationships with key independent broker-dealer firms. Kimberly G. Hargan, ’80 (Irina), Dulles, Va., accepted a position as public affairs officer at the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan, Armenia, and will be responsible for the embassy’s relations with the press.

1981 | Cynthia Hester Lemesany, ’81 (Lowell), Colorado Springs, Colo., was honored for her contributions to Cheyenne Mountain School District 12. She has been president of the school’s PTO for two years. Reed B. Markham, ’81, MA ’82 (Lorena), West Jordan, Utah, was selected as an Olympic torchbearer and the only college faculty member in America to serve on the 2002 International Olympic Committee News Service.

1982 | Echo Roberson Fling, ’82 (Jim), Trenton, N.J., has been appointed director of communications in the Office of Marketing & College Relations at Thomas Edison State College and is a communications professional with 25 years editorial experience. Steven J. Maranville, ’82, MBA ’86 (Penny Burnett, ’81), Houston, was honored with the Outstanding Teaching Award from the University of Houston—Downtown. He was also honored for his work with helping students to succeed.

1983 | David L. Holt, ’83, MBA University of Redlands ’89 (Kathryn Buchholz, ’83), Yucaipa, Calif., advanced from diplomate to fellow status within the American College of Healthcare Executives, the highest level of advancement as a health-care executive.

Timothy T. Jex, ’83, MD Uniformed Services University ’87, MPH University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston ’94 (Chie), Sumter, S.C., was promoted to colonel and assigned last summer as the command surgeon in the U.S. Central Command Air Forces. Calvin A. Porter, ’83, MS ’86, PhD Texas Tech University ’92 (Ann), Lubbock, Texas, accepted a tenure-track position in vertebrate zoology at Xavier University of Louisiana. He spent a month doing field work in Gabon, West Africa.

1986 | Bruce A. Brown, MBA ’86 (Laura), Salt Lake City, joined Wasatch Environmental as senior project manager and will perform underground-storage-tank removals and installations.

David D. Clark, ’86, MBA Texas Tech University ’92 (Dodie Henderson, ’84), Provo, has been named chief operating officer for Intermountain Health Care’s Urban South Region and is responsible for day-to-day operations at three hospitals. Valerie Holladay, ’86, MA ’91, Pleasant Grove, Utah, has taken a position as senior book and special projects editor with Ancestry.com. She worked several years in LDS publishing. Wayne Schiess, ’86, JD Cornell University ’89 (Kimberli Jensen, ’90), Austin, Texas, was promoted to senior lecturer at the University of Texas School of Law. His book Writing for the Legal Audience will be published this fall.

1987 | Aaron R. Kelson, ’87, PhD Utah State University ’97 (Roxanne Fife, ’90), Eveleth, Minn., was appointed as the economics and geography instructor at Mesabi Range Community and Technical College, where he teaches environmental ethics.

1988 | Shauna Scott-Bellaccomo, ’88, Vernal, Utah, serves as the Utah state president of Business and Professional Women. She is employed with the Department of Workforce Services as an employment counselor and workshop facilitator.

1989 | Katherine Donahoo Sproul, ’89 (David), San Clemente, Calif., is a director of creative advertising for Columbia Pictures and spent the last two years working on Spider-Man, which broke box-office records with the biggest three-day opening ever.

1990 | Susanne Gardner Ericsson, ’90 (Thomas, ’90), Henderson, Nev., was named president of Ericsson Homebuilding, a residential construction company. Thomas A. Ericsson, ’90, JD University of California, Berkeley ’93 (Susanne Gardner, ’90), Henderson, Nev., has been elected vice-president of Ericsson Performance Horses, a start-up, privately held, tax-write-off venture.

1991 | Taylor M. Oldroyd, ’91, MPA ’01 (Meredith), Fairfax, Va., joined the Bush administration as the director of legislative and public affairs for rural development with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

1992 | Christian M. Ogilvie, ’92, MD University of Minnesota Duluth ’96 (Sarah Grover, ’94), San Francisco, completed residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of California, San Francisco.

1993 | Brian G. Swain, ’93, and Rebecca Ashton Swain, ’96, West Jordan, Utah, both completed MBA degrees at Utah State. They have three children.

1994 | David A. Dunbar, ’94, MMU University of North Texas ’98, Lewisville, Texas, will pursue advanced-studies certification in musical scoring for motion pictures and television at the University of Southern California. George Manolis, ’94 (Kathryn), Cato, N.Y., was promoted to sergeant at the Onondaga County Department of Correction. He writes policy and renders interpretations of law as it pertains to the department, inmates, and procedures.

1995 | Justin D. Harris, ’95, JD University of the Pacific ’98 (Kolette Holding, ’95), Fresno, Calif., is associated with The Walter Law Group and will focus on commercial litigation and bankruptcy. Roberto E. Salgado, ’95 (Heidi Bennett, ’99), Phoenix, received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School at Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. William C. Stacey, ’95, PhD Case Western Reserve University ’00 (Kali Landmeier, ’94), Cleveland, earned a medical degree at Case Western Reserve University and expects to complete a residency in internal medicine and transitional and neurology at University Hospitals of Cleveland.

1996 | Cort Comish, ’96 (Beate Feustel, ’96), Falkensee, Germany, has accepted a position as group manager for life cycle management at SPM Technologies, where he will establish a new department for the maintenance and development of software solutions.

1997 | Douglas S. Clouse, ’97 (Jennifer Hughes, ’97), San Antonio, graduated with honors from Tulane University School of Medicine. He will work in the orthopedic department at Texas Health Science Center for the next five years. Ranleigh L. Fleshman, ’97 (Miriam), Cleveland Heights, Ohio, earned a medical degree at Case Western Reserve University and expects to complete a residency in pathology at University Hospitals of Cleveland. Anthony F. Human, 97 (Lora Brinkerhoff, ’98), Stow, Ohio, graduated with his DO degree on June 1 and has accepted a family-practice residency in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

1998 | Matthew J. Ball, ’98 (Shauna), West Jordan, Utah, earned his JD and joined the Salt Lake City law firm of Parr Waddoups Brown Gee & Loveless as an associate in the litigation department. Darren D. Chamberlain, ’98 (Cynthia Jurgens, ’96), New York, graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. He will begin a pediatric residency at New York University in July. Chad A. Grange, ’98, JD ’01 (Angela), Tokyo, is a foreign associate in the international division of Asahi Law Offices and has drafted several agreements for various clients, from Campbell’s Soup to BMW. James W. Ogilvie Jr., ’98, MD University of Minnesota ’02 (Rachel Robison, ’00), Minneapolis, will begin a seven-year residency in surgery at the University of Minnesota. Jess P. 2000 | Julie Juhasz Lemke, ’00 (Troy, ’01), Valparaiso, Ind., attends Valparaiso University School of Law and is taking part in the honors program. She and her husband were married in 2000. Rachel Robison Ogilvie, ’00 (James, ’98), Minneapolis, has completed the second year of her doctoral studies in immunology at the University of Minnesota.

2001 | Matthew R. Crook, ’01 (Ashlee), Goose Creek, S.C., received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School at Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. John D. Herrin, ’01 (Larisa Mikesell, ’99), Provo, graduated from the Basic Civil Engineer Corps Officer School. He received instruction in engineering management, network analysis, and financial management. Troy D. 2002 | Marissa Adkins Pinon, ’02 (Aaron), Provo, was hired as the marketing communications coordinator for Radix Corporation in Salt Lake City and is responsible for coordinating marketing activities around the world.
