1944 | J. Thomas Fox, ’44 (Leticia), Sun City West, Ariz., completed a comprehensive course to earn the Certified Senior Advisor designation. Fox has taken this educational initiative to become a professional leader in meeting key needs concerning senior citizens.

1956 | Don L. F. Nilsen, ’56, MA American University ’61, PhD University of Michigan ’71, and his wife, M. Alleen Pace Nilsen, ’58, Med American University ’61, PhD University of Iowa ’74, Tempe, Ariz., lived in Afghanistan from 1967 to 1969. 1966 | C. Lewis Wilson, ’66, MSME Purdue University ’68 (Grace Stone, ’73), Salt Lake City, was named 2002 Utah Engineer of the Year at a banquet sponsored by the Utah Engineering Council.

1968 | Lola B. Walters, ’68, MA ’74, Salem, Utah, published her first novel, Finding a Mother. She has published stories and articles in various magazines and publications.

1969 | Craig C. Cheney, ’69, MA ’73 (Marsha Vandeburg, ’69), Alexandria, Va., was invited to present a Pentagon briefing on the U.S. Reserve System to the French Ministry of Defense on Nov. 17, 2001. Cheney served a mission to France and Belgium. He and his wife work for the Department of Defense and have six sons.

1971 | Donald E. Alldredge, ’71 (Tamara), Phoenix, has retired as a pilot for Northwest Airlines, completing a 37-year flying career. He flew mostly in the Pacific and Europe. Robert J. Eldredge, ’71, MA ’73, PhD University of California, Los Angeles ’84 (Pamela, ’70), Aberdeen, S.D., was recently named to the advisory committee of the Autism and Related Disorders Program at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. Keith J. Harrop, ’71 (Alice), Decatur, Ill., earned a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix. He is scheduled to enter a doctoral program in the fall of 2002. He is an area credit manager for Archer Daniels Midland. Scott L. Malan, ’71, PhD Washington University (Susan Hughart, ’71), Red Bluff, Calif., was named physician of the year at Mercy Medical Center in Redding, Calif., and St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff.

1972 | Don H. Adams, ’72 (Dennae Simpson, ’70), Orem, Utah, has been named president of Bear River Mutual Insurance and has 27 years of experience as an insurance executive.

1974 | Erick R. Erickson, ’74, PhD Johns Hopkins University ’83 (Joyce Kelly, ’74), Burke, Va., has been appointed vice president of the U.S. Grains Council in Washington, D.C. Berk W. Washburn, ’74, MBA ’77, JD ’77 (Carolyn Adams, ’73), Boulder, Colo., has been named vice president and division counsel of Key Equipment Finance, one of the nation’s largest bank-affiliated equipment financing companies.

1975 | David A. Price, ’75 (Jacqueline), Gilbert, Ariz., moved from Hawaii to Arizona to become a senior tracking system specialist with Spectrum Astro.

1978 | Gregory W. Williams, ’78, Salt Lake City, qualified for MassMutual’s 2002 Elite Leaders Conference based on the scope and quality of his service to policy owners and clients. Williams is a specialist in retirement, investments, and estate planning.

1981 | Ronald E. White, ’81, JD ’84 (Julie Murphy, ’81), La Verne, Calif., has been elected to the Bonita School Board for a four-year term. He is a partner in the law firm of Hunt, Ortmann, Blasco, Palffy, and Rossell in Pasadena, Calif.

1982 | Thomas S. Martin, ’82 (Loretta), Santa Fe, N.M., has accepted a position with Edward Jones Investments as an investment representative in Santa Fe.

1984 | Marlene W. Lewis, ’84, MLIS ’89 (Robert), Bethel, Alaska, was honored as Alaska’s Young Mother Representative 2001–02. She represented Alaska at the National Convention of American Mothers in Portland, Ore. David T. Pimentel, ’84, MA University of California, Berkeley ’87, JD University of California, Berkeley ’88 (Annette Bay, ’87), Sarajevo, Bosnia, joined an international court reform project in Bosnia and Herzegovina under the Dayton peace accords. Stephen J. Stanek, ’84 (Kathleen), Bremerton, Wash., was selected as Naval Facilities Engineering Command’s Southwest Division 2001 Engineer of the Year for leading the structural assessment of naval facilities in the Puget Sound area.

1985 | Michel J. Carter, MBA ’85 (Danielle), Longueuil, Quebec, was appointed president and chief executive officer of Cogeco Radio-Television and will be responsible for the overall operations of the network and regional television stations as well as the company’s radio stations.

Jeffrey R. Erickson, ’85, JD Southwestern University ’88 (Diane Spaan, ’84), Murrieta, Calif., was appointed the managing partner of the Inland Empire office of LaFollette, Johnson, De Haas, Fesler, Silberberg, and Ames. Craig A. Livingston, ’85, MA ’91, PhD Temple University ’02 (Jennifer Parrish, ’93), The Woodlands, Texas, was awarded a PhD in history from Temple University in January 2002. He teaches history at Montgomery College in Conroe, Texas.

1986 | Paul S. Edwards, ’86, JD University of California, Berkeley ’91, PhD University of California, Berkeley ’95 (Margo Robison, ’86), Oakton, Va., was named president of the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, a research and education center. Donald S. Robinson, ’86 (Cindi Spencer, ’89), Portland, Ore., worked for Enron Power Marketing. He now works for UBS Warburg as an electricity scheduler.

1988 | James R. Rada, ’88 (Amy), Cumberland, Md., is the author of Canawlers: A Novel of the C&O Canal, a historical novel about a family working on the C&O Canal transporting coal from Cumberland to Georgetown.

1989 | Darren J. Jones, ’89, JD University of Washington ’92 (Ann Marie Rice, ’87), Port Orchard, Wash., has been honored as a “rising star” of the legal profession by Washington Law and Politics Magazine. He is vice president and general counsel of K2 Sporting Goods. Val D. Ricks, ’89, JD ’92 (Elizabeth), The Woodlands, Texas, was granted tenure from the South Texas College of Law Board of Directors. He has taught contracts, corporations, agency and partnership, and jurisprudence at South Texas since 1996.

1992 | Steven L. Nichols, ’92, JD George Mason University ’98 (Kristine Riddle, ’94), Heber City, Utah, has been appointed managing partner of the newly opened Salt Lake City office of Rader, Fishman & Grauer,
a national intellectual property law firm.

Rebecca T. Tingle, MA ’92 (Bryce, ’92) Calgary, Alberta, published her first book, The Edge on the Sword. She received critical praise and was awarded a Best Book Award by the American Library Association.

1993 | Jonathan G. Sandberg, ’93, MS ’95, PhD Kansas State University ’98 (Sharon Jannelli, ’94), Liverpool, N.Y., received a Teaching Recognition Award from Syracuse University. Matthew P. Scherer, ’93 (Kristi Albert, ’93), Alpine, Utah, joined the Axis41 in-house design team and will be responsible for developing Web-centric advertising and marketing elements for their clients. Fernando C. Vivanco, ’93, Seal Beach, Calif., was selected to be on the annual “Top 15 Public Relations Pros Under 35 to Watch” list in PR News. He works as director of communications for Boeing’s new Space & Communications Services.

1994 | Donald R. Crawford, ’94 (Julie), Henderson, Nev., was elected state president of the Nevada Landscape Association. He is employed as the west region landscape manager for Camden Property Trust.

1995 | Ryan M. Day, ’95 (Gretchen Mills, ’96), Provo, earned the graduate designation of Family Business Specialist from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pa. Day is a financial services associate with Intermountain Group/MassMutual.

1996 | April Saunders Heiselt, ’96 (Nathan, ’96), Salt Lake City, was admitted into the University of Utah master’s of public administration program. Her anticipated graduation is May 2004. Nathan E. Heiselt, ’96 (April Saunders, ’96), Salt Lake City, earned his master’s degree in education with an emphasis in teaching and learning from the University of Utah in December. Kenneth R. Simmons, ’96, Pomona, Calif., received his MBA in May 2002 from Claremont Graduate University. He is a manager of global marketing communications and public relations for Baskin-Robbins. John W. Taber, ’96, Raleigh, N.C., completed a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems from the World Campus of Pennsylvania State University. He is employed with Analytical Surveys as a cadastral mapping technician. Douglas E. Thomas, ’96, PhD Texas A&M ’01 (Dora), Albuquerque, N.M., is an assistant professor of management at the University of New Mexico.

1997 | Leo T. Brown, ’97 (Kristi Smith, ’97), Golden, Colo., received a master’s degree in geophysics at the Colorado School of Mines and accepted a position with Conoco-Phillips in Bartlesville, Okla., where he will work with the reservoir characterization group. Barbara Ackroyd Childs, ’97 (Greg, ’95), Las Vegas, joined the department of marketing and community relations at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as a public relations specialist. She assists with a variety of projects, including university marketing initiatives. Stacy Resendes Foley, ’97 (Mark, ’98), Peoria, Ariz., completed a master’s in social work at Arizona State University West. Her final project was presented for use at the Behavioral Health Unit of Thunderbird Samaritan Medical Center in Glendale, Ariz.

2000 | Janalee Farr, ’00, Bountiful, Utah, organized Voices of Friendship, a performance of children’s choirs from around the world at the Conference Center of the Church of Jesus Christ in October 2001. The choirs came from as far as Trinidad, Tobago, and Estonia. Erin J. Sacks, ’00, Springville, Utah, joined the Broadway National Touring Company of Phantom of the Opera in the principal role of Meg Giry. Lorianne Updike, ’00, Provo, was honorably released from the Australia Sydney South Mission on Dec. 13, 2001.
