“Most Wired” Recognition
BYU was recently named one of the top 50 of “America’s Most Wired Colleges” by Yahoo! Internet Life magazine.
“This recognition is validation that we’re doing something important and useful for faculty and students,” said Eric L. Denna, ’84, vice president of information technology and chief information officer at BYU.
BYU ranked 41st out of the four-year institutions that qualified for the survey by meeting the criteria set by Yahoo! Internet Life. The rankings were based on six main criteria including infrastructure, student resources, Web portal, e-learning, technical support, and wireless.
BYU’s final score was 86.52. In last year’s results, BYU received an overall score of 76.51 and placed 78th.
The university achieved high marks in technical support and student resources. According to Yahoo!, students with disabilities benefit from BYU’s support technology, which, for example, provides blind users with Braille printers and text-to-speech software.
Honors in Print
BYU’s Print and Mail Production Center (PMPC) recently received accolades at the International Publishing Management Association 2001 conference held in Portland, Ore.
In-plant printers representing universities, cities, churches, stores, and major brands submitted more than 550 entries. Out of 105 awards, BYU earned 10, six of which were first-place prizes.
First-place prizes were achieved in annual reports, magazines, catalogs, compact discs, and special projects.
“The entrants aren’t little companies; these are big-time companies we competed against,” said West A. Barton, director of PMPC.
