Shortly after the BYU women’s cross country team took first place at the NCAA national championship, cheers erupted as the men’s team claimed its own win, creating a historic double victory.

The BYU runners were met at the finish line with embraces from their biggest fans—women’s coach Diljeet Taylor and men’s coach Ed Eyestone (BS ’85, MS ’90). After race day each coach was named a 2024 NCAA National Coach of the Year.

“When you unite extraordinary coaches with phenomenal athletes, great things happen,” says athletics director Tom A. Holmoe (BS ’83, MS ’95). “Ed and Diljeet are phenomenal coaches, but they’re both way more than that….Their influence in the lives of their student-athletes is stronger off the racecourse than on.”
