BYU Urban Legends

Hugh Nibley read every book in/on a ________. You fill in the blank. Some say it was every book in a library, others every book on a shelf of classics. Nibley was a prodigious reader, no doubt, but is there truth to this widespread story? Or how about rumors of hoarded food at BYU, stored up against an emergency? Or dinosaur bones under the stadium?

In a future article, BYU Magazine plans to dig into the stories of buried bones, remarkable reading feats, and other legends that circulate among students and trickle down from generation to generation. We want to hear the amazing stories and claims about BYU that you’ve accumulated and spread—tales of ghosts in the library and HFAC, of strange grading procedures (You get a 4.0 if your roommate dies.), and of unusual physical facilities (Do tunnels really connect campus and the Church offices in Salt Lake City?).

Send your BYU urban legends to magazine@byu.edu by Feb. 14, 2007—the time of year when rumors usually crop up about tuition refunds for those who graduate unmarried.
