ISPART Created
On March 7, President Merrill J. Bateman announced the creation of the Brigham Young University Institute for the Study and Preservation of Ancient Religious Texts (ISPART), which will include BYU’s Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS), the Middle Eastern Texts Initiative (METI), and the Center for the Preservation of Ancient Religious Texts (CPART).
“The establishment of this institute represents BYU’s commitment to the preservation and understanding of religious texts,” said President Bateman.
The infrastructure of FARMS–in publications, operations, development, and administration–will now become the supporting infrastructure for ISPART, according to Daniel Oswald, executive director of the new institute. FARMS will still be the name under which the institute undertakes projects and publications associated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
New Associate Academic Vice President
Richard N. Williams, ’74, a professor of psychology, has been appointed as an associate academic vice president. Williams replaces James D. Gordon III, ’77, who has returned to full-time teaching and research in the J. Reuben Clark Law School.
Online Genealogy Tutorial
A free BYU-developed computer tutorial aimed at teaching people how to use computer resources to research genealogy is now available online.
