1950 | Gary E. Jones (BS ’50; Utahna Johnson [’51]; Salt Lake City) has been named CEO for the Center for Economic and Industry Research. 

1965 | Richard L. Tolman (BA ’65, PhD University of Utah ’69; Maralyn Daynes [B ’63]; Incline Village, Nev.) is this year’s winner of the National Genealogical Society Family History Writing Contest for “The Life and Times of English Immigrant Priscilla Clark Pickett Wilford (1826–1869).”

1969 | Darby V. Checketts (B ’69; Sharon; Mesa, Ariz.) spoke at BYU Education Week in August. His topic was “Leverage: How to Create Your Own ‘Tipping Points’ in Business and in Life.” 

1970 | Bettina Tortice Begay (BS ’70, MSW Arizona State University ’74; Raymond; Glendale, Ariz.) was named director of the Cibecue Indian Health Service Health Center. 

1971 | Steven F. Anderson (BA ’71, MA ’73; Nancy; South Pasadena, Calif.) recently sang and entertained on the cruise ship Anuket on the Nile River.

1972 | J. Robert Adams (BS ’72, MS University of Southern California ’82; Mary Allen [BS ’70]; Austin, Texas), a retired Air Force colonel, is deputy director of veteran affairs in Austin, Texas. 

1973 | R. Brian Crane (BA ’73; Diana Long [BA ’73]; Sparks, Nev.), creator of the syndicated comic strip Pickles, was nominated for the Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year Award by the National Cartoonist Society. Thomas A. Kerby (BA ’73, MA University of Arizona ’75, PhD University of Arizona ’76; June Stockett [’70]; Scott, Miss.), vice president of technical services with Delta & Pine Land, received the Cotton Physiology Research Award at the Cotton Physiology Conference.

1974 | Patricia Rollins Drussel (BA ’74; Dennis; Payson, Utah) was named a 2005–06 museum teacher fellow by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

1975 | Michael D. Christensen (BA ’75; Sidney Lang [BS ’97]; Salt Lake City) published The Tomb of Devils, a science fiction/mystery novel.

1976 | Carolyn Lee Allen (BS ’76; Robert [BS ’76]; Springfield, Va.), creator of www.MyWeightLossFriend.com, has created a one-minute weight-loss inspiration system. Richard H. Keilig Jr. (BA ’76, MS Rivier College ’82; PhD American University ’02; Carol; Moravia, Iowa) has retired as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He is a high school biology teacher and an adjunct professor of science at Indian Hills Community College.

1977 | Terri Macy Cannavo (BS ’77; Daniel [BA ’80]; Alpine, Utah) has published the book So, You’re Not Mother Teresa, which offers 500 tips for ways to serve in 25 situations. Scott L. Hunsaker(BA ’77, MEd ’82, PhD University of Virginia ’91; Rebecca Naser [BS ’75]; North Logan, Utah), associate professor of elementary education at Utah State University, received the Jewel Bindrup Award from the Utah Association for Gifted Children.

1979 | David R. Deitrick (BA ’79; Lori; Knoxville, Tenn.), an adjunct art instructor at Roane State Community College, has been included in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers for 2005–06.

1980 | Gail A. Cornwall (BS ’80, MS ’82, PhD Johns Hopkins University ’88; Lubbock, Texas) is an associate professor of cell biology and biochemistry at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Olivia Garcia (JD ’80; San Francisco) has been appointed regional attorney for the National Labor Relations Board’s San Francisco regional office.

1982 | Stephen E. Thompson (JD ’82; Donna Wampler [AAS ’77]; Naples, Fla.), a lawyer with the firm Roetzel & Andress, was named a Florida Super Lawyer for 2006 by Law & Politics magazine.

1983 | Kenneth L. Larson (BIS ’83; Carol; Los Angeles) is the author and illustrator of the nonfiction book Pi and the Golden Section. Thomas R. Taylor (MBA ’83, JD Arizona State University ’87; Pamela; Salt Lake City) was named one of the best corporate and merger and acquisition lawyers in the state of Utah by Chambers and Partners.

1984 | Douglas P. Gorgoni (BS ’84, MS Air Force Institute of Technology ’91; Anchorage, Alaska) has been promoted to colonel and is deputy chief of staff for logistics with the 9th Regional Readiness Command, U.S. Army Reserve, at Fort Shafter, Hawaii.

1986 | Brendan C. Stack Jr. (’86, MD Eastern Virginia Medical School ’89; Cynthia; Roland, Ariz.) was presented with the James Y. Suen, MD, Chair in Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery. He was also inducted as a surgeon into the American College of Endocrinology. Joel A. Warriner (BS ’86; Linda; Richmond, Va.) is the geotechnical program supervisor for the Virginia Department of Transportation. Philip W. White (BA ’86, MA ’89, PhD University of Massachussets ’99; Danville, Ky.) has been named an associate professor of English at Centre College.

1988 | Jeffery E. Pizzino (BA ’88; Leticia Follett [BMU ’87]; Chandler, Ariz.) has joined Isagenix International in Chandler, Ariz., as the director of communications.

1989 | Harvey S. James Jr. (BA ’89, MS ’90, PhD Washington University in St. Louis ’95; Heather Christensen [’92]; Columbia, Mo.) was appointed associate professor with tenure in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Missouri and editor in chief of Agriculture and Human Values. Eric E. Tuten (BA ’89, MA University of Utah ’92, PhD University of Utah ’00; MaryClare Maslyn [BS ’87]; Slippery Rock, Pa.), an assistant professor of history at Slippery Rock University, participated in Brandeis University’s Summer Institute for Israel Studies.

1990 | Sean A. McKitrick (BA ’90, MA ’92, PhD Claremont McKenna College ’99; Villate; Terre Haute, Ind.) has been appointed assistant provost for curriculum, instruction, and assessment at Binghamton University.

1991 | Thomas G. Hallaq (BA ’91, MA Eastern Washington University ’03, MEd Eastern Washington University ’04; Pocatello, Idaho) is an assistant professor of television broadcasting at Idaho State University.

1992 | Jeffrey T. Heninger (BA ’92; Suzanne; Gilbert, Ariz.) has created the Web site www.jeffheninger.com, which features his paintings, compositions for guitar and piano, public-speaking accomplishments, and acting experience. Kurt W. 1993 | R. Mark Ray (BS ’93, MD Wake Forest University ’97; Angel Larsen [BS ’92]; Maumelle, Ark.), a pediatric otolaryngologist at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, will be traveling to Ramallah, West Bank, to perform surgeries for pediatric patients with cleft lips and palates.

1994 | Brian L. Williams (BA ’94, MA George Washington University ’03; Judith; Waldorf, Md.) received his doctorate of education with distinguished honors from George Washington University’s executive leadership doctoral program in May 2006.

1995 | Micaela Ann Choo (BA ’95, MA ’05; Salt Lake City) was hired as the marketing director for The Piano Gallery in Salt Lake City.

1996 | Josh G. James (’96; Cherie Gallian [BFA ’95]; Provo) cofounded Omniture, a Web-analytics company which has expanded internationally and has gone public. Brian L. Mower (BS ’96, MAcc ’96; Ruby; South Jordan, Utah) is chief accounting officer of IOMED, a medical-products company, and was highlighted for his appointment in The Journal of Accountancy.

1999 | Matthew B. Crane (BA ’99, BA ’99, LLM Duke University ’02, JD Duke University ’02; Katrina Nielsen [BA ’98]; Henderson, Nev.) has joined the law firm Bryan Cave as an associate in the firm’s real estate client service group in Phoenix. Jared G. Jones (BA ’99; Cathie; Boston) received an MBA from the Carroll Graduate School of Management at Boston College and accepted a position as associate brand manager in boys marketing at Hasbro.

2000 | Stephanie Chapple Johnson (BA ’00; Jared [BA ’02]; Allen, Texas) is an exclusive online distributor for Lasting Spires crystal bead temple kits and supplies (beadtemples.com).

2001 | Jason M. Chesley (BS ’01; Gretchen; Milwaukee, Wis.) received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. His residency will be at the Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wash. Caroline Milton Harper (BS ’01; Chad; Middle River, Md.) launched LatterDay Inspirations (latterdayinspirations.com), a greeting card company for the Latter-day Saint community.

2002 | Mark Alan Crandall (BS ’02; Hillary Guymon [BA ’01]; Seattle) received his medical degree from the University of Washington and will begin his residency in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. J. Scott Dutcher (BS ’02; Kyla Miller [’02]; Mesa, Ariz.) completed his juris doctorate at Arizona State University and received a Burton Award, which honors excellence in legal writing. Jared A. Johnson (BA ’02; Stephanie Chapple [BS ’00]; Allen, Texas) accepted a position as public relations coordinator for Richardson Regional Medical Center.
