The BYU Banyan yearbook was put to rest in 1985, but a group of students and faculty from The Daily Universe and the Instructional Technology Center resurrected it this year in the form of an interactive CD-ROM.
Called the Virtual Banyan, the yearbook is available for both PC and Macintosh platforms and contains a virtual tour of BYU campus; pictures, quick-time movies, and audio clips of major campus activities, including sports events; searchable full-text archives of The Daily Universe for 199697; trivia games; and electronic versions of selected student publications.
“It’s the closest thing to being on campus without being there,” says Christina Reynolds, the Virtual Banyan’s editor and a BYU student from Alberta, Canada, majoring in journalism.
The Virtual Banyan was released in December 1997. More information is available through The Daily Universe, (801) 378-2957, or via the Internet(https://newsnet.byu.edu/banyan/banyan.html).
