1960 | James P. O’Brien, ’60, MS ’61 (Anna), Fallbrook, Calif., retired from the Harbor College athletics program. From 1976 to 1985 he served as head coach of the school’s baseball team, achieving a winning record of .720. He served as athletic director from 1985 to 2001. He and Anna are the parents of five adult children.

1965 | Frederick L. Hills, ’65, MS Northeastern University ’74 (Lorelei Hafen, ’76), Herndon, Va., has worked for the engineering department of XM Satellite Radio since 1999. His work has contributed to the company’s development of digital broadcast equipment. He and Lorelei have three children.

1966 | John G. Tew, ’66, MS ’67, PhD ’70 (Gloria McGlon, ’66), Mechanicsville, Va., received the University Award of Excellence from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Tew is respected internationally for his contribution to the field of immunology. He was responsible for developing the immunology program at VCU.

1967 | Judith Christiansen Hill, ’67 (Sterling, ’69), San Jose, Calif., a fifth-grade teacher and veteran in her school district, completed a weeklong workshop at the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute in early American history.

1968 | Juanita J. Welty, ’68, Wichita, Kan., graduated from Newman University with a bachelor’s degree in counseling at the age of 60. She is pursuing a career in addiction counseling.

1970 | Jimmy G. Saunders, ’70, ME ’76 (Pamela), Laguna Hills, Calif., is the owner of four patents and works for Western Telematic. Previously, he helped to establish Charlton Associates, a hard-disk-drive manufacturing company. He and Pamela have seven children.

1971 | Grace Stitely Duffy, ’71, MBA Georgia State University ’87 (John), Summerville, S.C., is the chair of the 23,000-member quality management division of the American Society for Quality. She is a management and performance systems specialist with Trident Technical College.

1975 | David O. Nuffer, ’75, JD ’78 (Lori Lyons, ’77), St. George, Utah, is the past president of the Utah Bar Association, having served from July 2000 to July 2001. He is a partner in the law firm of Snow, Nuffer, Engstrom, Drake, Wade & Smart, and specializes in real estate, municipal law, natural resources, litigation, and alternate dispute resolution.

1977 | Jamie Duncan Jacobson, ’77, MA ’80 (Carey), Edmond, Okla., is the director of dance at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) and artistic director of the school’s Kaleidoscope Dancers Company. In October 2000 she received the Hauptman Fellow Award from UCO in recognition of her scholarly activity.

1978 | John A. Adams, ’78, JD ’81 (Lisa), Salt Lake City, is president-elect of the Utah State Bar. He is a shareholder in the firm of Ray, Quinney & Nebeker, focusing his litigation practice on general commercial matters, insurance coverage disputes, natural resources, intellectual property law, and environmental issues. His term will begin in July 2002. Gary L. Clark, ’78 (Leona Musgrove, ’78), Carson City, Nev., a 23-year employee of Southwest Gas, is the new vice president of the company’s Southern Nevada Division. He began his career at Southwest Gas as a distribution engineer and has also served as vice president of the Northern Nevada Division. Wallace D. Taylor, ’78, MS ’80 (Deon Alexander, ’77), Plover, Wis., is the president of Sentry Life Insurance Company. He is also president of Sentry Equity Services and vice president of the Sentry Mutual Fund. He and Deon have five children.

1979 | Steve Allison, ’79, MPT Baylor University ’80, PhD University of Texas at Austin ’94 (Cindy), Fort Sam Houston, Texas, was selected to attend the U.S. Army War College in residence. Mark E. Cammack, ’79, JD University of Wisconsin—Green Bay ’83 (Anne), Los Angeles, was honored as the Irwin R. Buchalter Professor of Law at Southwestern University School of Law for 2001–02. In 1984 he traveled to Indonesia as a Fulbright Scholar to study the Islamic court system. Joseph Downing, ’79, Syracuse, N.Y., has been named associate dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts and director of the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University. He is also working on a new opera, Nauvoo. Lindsay K. Mann, ’79, MPA ’81 (Lesa Smith, ’80), Visalia, Calif., has been appointed chief executive officer of Kaweah Delta Health Care District following his service as senior vice president at Kaweah Delta. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He and Lesa have five children.

1980 | Gregory E. Francis, ’80, PhD Massachusetts Institute of Technology ’87 (Sandra Sumsion, ’79), Bozeman, Mont., a professor at Montana State University, earned the President’s Distinguished Teacher Award for 2001. He specializes in a teaching method called “guided inquiry.”

1982 | Daniel T. Ditto, ’82, JD ’85 (Laura Davis, ’81), Laie, Hawaii, is the vice chair of strategic projects for Hawaii Reserves, a corporation that manages the property assets of the Church of Jesus Christ in Hawaii. Prior to that appointment he served as the firm’s president and chief executive officer. Catherine Mikat Marco, ’82, MD Johns Hopkins University ’86 (Alan), Toledo, Ohio, is chair of the ethics committee of the American College of Emergency Physicians. She also serves as president of the Bioethics Network of Ohio.

1983 | Eric W. Marler, ’83, MAcc ’83 (Shellie Van Thiel, ’80), Laie, Hawaii, is a member of the president’s council of Hawaii Reserves, a corporation that manages the property assets of the Church of Jesus Christ in Hawaii. He serves as the company’s executive vice president and chief financial officer. R. Bruce Money, ’83, MBA Harvard Business School ’88, PhD University of California, Irvine ’93 (Kimberly Klecker, ’83), Gilbert, S.C., is an associate professor of international business with tenure at the University of South Carolina, where he teaches international marketing and negotiations. In 2000 he received the business school’s Alfred G. Smith Award.

1984 | W. Roy Van Orman, EdD ’84, (Kathy), Bountiful, Utah, received the Rodney Brady Master Teacher of the Year Award from Weber State University. He has also received the Pioneer Award from the Utah Gerontological Society.

1985 | Dale C. Hunt, ’85, MS ’88, PhD University of California, San Diego ’93, JD University of California, Berkeley ’96 (Kay Campbell, ’89), Escondido, Calif., is a partner in the intellectual property law firm of Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear. His practice includes patenting in genetics, biotechnology, and environmental technology.

1988 | Graceann Irvine Bennett, ’88 (Stephen), Newburyport, Mass., is an executive vice president and director of planning at Arnold Worldwide. She oversees the agency’s Consumer Insight Group, leading account planning efforts throughout Arnold’s network in Boston, San Francisco, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C.

1989 | Jack B. Eldridge Jr., ’89, MBA ’93 (LoriAnne), Orem, Utah, joined Neways as international controller after working for Kennecott Utah Copper for five years. He also serves as chairman of the board of trustees for Zion Share, a not-for-profit organization that facilitates medical expense sharing for members of the Church of Jesus Christ.

1990 | Teresa Reber Bell, ’90, MA ’92 (Ryan), Pittsburgh, Pa., received a doctorate in second language acquisition and teaching from the University of Arizona in May 2001. She now teaches in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh. Robert Davis, ’90, JD ’94 (Tiffany Miller, ’88), Aliso Viejo, Calif., is the vice president of business development for Meade Instruments. In that role he develops and negotiates distribution and marketing agreements for Meade’s telescope products. He serves as first counselor in his ward bishopric. He and Tiffany have four children. 1991 | Sonny W. Morris, ’91 (Cheryl Sagers, ’93), Roanoke, Va., has been promoted to the position of senior associate in the Roanoke office of Brown, Edwards & Co., a full-service public accounting and business advisory firm.

1993 | Mark D. Hiatt, ’93, MD Wake Forest University ’99, MBA Wake Forest University ’99 (Amy McNeill, ’95), Charlottesville, Va., of the department of radiology at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center has been awarded a research grant by the Radiological Society of North America.

1994 | R. Eric Beaver, JD ’94 (Sharon), Hauula, Hawaii, is the president and chief executive officer of Hawaii Reserves, a corporation that manages the property assets of the Church of Jesus Christ in Hawaii. Prior to earning a law degree at the J. Reuben Clark Law School, he received a bachelor’s degree in business from BYU—Hawaii.

1995 | Diane DeFord Lillie, ’95, MA ’98 (Andrew, ’98), Austin, Texas, was honored as Mompreneur of the Month for August 2001 by iVillage.com. Working with partner Jessica Davis Holland, ’94, she is the cofounder and president of imthebaby.com. Diane and Andrew have two children. Crystal Phelps, ’95, Rockville, Md., is the senior marketing manager at JobSpectrum.org, an online career and employment Web site serving the chemical sciences community. JobSpectrum is sponsored by the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific organization. Matthew G. Wells, ’95, JD University of Virginia ’00 (Anita Cramer, ’95), Salt Lake City, transferred from the Palo Alto, Calif., office of Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati to help open the firm’s Utah office. He and Anita have two daughters.

1996 | Todd Coleman, ’96, MM Eastman School of Music ’99 (Tiffaney Smith, ’94), Rochester, N.Y., received the Belle Gittleman Award from the Eastman School of Music for his most recent composition, “Crossing the Threshold.” Todd runs a music engraving company and does co
nsulting work for multimedia CD-ROM development. Matthew E. Cox, ’96, JD University of South Carolina ’99 (Amanda Courtney, ’96), Spartanburg, S.C., has joined the law firm of Johnson, Smith, Hibbard & Wildman as an associate. James D. Fellows, ’96, MA George Washington University ’99 (Susanne Neuendorf, ’94), Logan, Utah, was honored as a hometown diplomat by Secretary of State Colin Powell. He joined the Foreign Service in 1999 and recently completed a two-year assignment as vice consul at the U.S. embassy in Bern, Switzerland. Roger L. Ivey, ’96, MD University of Nevada, Las Vegas ’01 (Melissa K. Samsel, ’94), Waterbury, Conn., has begun a general surgery residency at Waterbury Hospital. He and Melissa have three sons. Jeremy T. Steele, ’96, JD Duke University ’00 (Melanie), Plano, Texas, a corporate attorney in the Dallas office of Baker Botts, has received the firm’s 2001 Opus Justitiae Award in recognition of his pro bono work. 1998 | Bente L. Dorny, ’98, University Place, Wash., is an account manager for Magellan Behavioral Health. She also serves as a corporate trainer for the company’s Employee Assistance Program. Nicole Larson, ’98, South Jordan, Utah, is a new account coordinator at Bremer Public Relations. Prior to her arrival at Bremer, she worked for KSL Radio as a writer, reporter, associate news producer, and talk show producer.

1999 | Wade C. Lueck, ’99 (Ashley Bowen, ’97), Provo, and Jason L. Whipple, ’99 (Karen Palmer, ’98), Provo, presented their award-winning research on therapy outcomes at an international meeting of the Society for Psychotherapy Research in Montevideo, Uruguay, in June 2001. Michael A. Southworth, ’99 (Emmy Bowden, ’99), Murray, Utah, has been promoted to account executive at Politis Communications.

2000 | Karry L. Rathje, ’00, Las Vegas, is an assistant account executive at Ballard Communications, assigned to the firm’s real estate and government affairs divisions. Prior to joining Ballard she worked in the Las Vegas office of Katz & Associates, a California-based public relations firm specializing in government services.
