1966 G. Douglas Larsen, ’66, MD University of Virginia ’69 (Julie Wright, ’64), Lexington, Va., received the 2001 Dawbarn Community Foundation Award for his work in reducing teen pregnancy, fatherlessness, and non-marital births among young people. Larsen is the health director for the Central Shenandoah Health District.

1967 Larry E. Nelson, ’67, MA University of Utah ’70, PhD Duke University ’75 (Jalene Henry, ’69), Florence, S.C., has been appointed head of the Department of History at Francis Marion University.

1971 Kent D. Servoss, ’71, MBA University of Phoenix ’92 (Kae Sorenson, ’71), Bountiful, Utah, returned home Oct. 10 from active duty as leader of a military intelligence team for the Utah National Guard in Bosnia. He works for Bountiful City Light & Power.

1972 Byron D. Sears, ’72, MA Azusa Pacific University ’79 (Sally Taylor, ’72), Temple City, Calif., received an EdD in educational leadership from the University of Southern California. He is an administrator in the Temple City Unified School District. He and Sally have two children.

1974 Sue Clark Severson, ’74 (Ralph, ’69), Orinda, Calif., began her second term as president of the Orinda Union School District Board of Trustees on Dec. 1, 2001. She was first elected to the board in 1993.

1978 J. Reese Leavitt, ’78 (Suzanne Griffith, ’78), Melba, Idaho, received his license to practice structural engineering in Guam. He is president of Leavitt & Associates Engineers.

1982 Edward R. Van Gass, AA ’82 (Nancy), West Jordan, Utah, has performed music for several cabinet ministers in South Africa and for two kings: King Sobhuza of Swaziland and King Goodwill of Zululand.

1983 G. Markell Fluckiger, ’83, MAcc ’83, JD University of California, Berkeley ’87 (Ellen Merrill, ’81), Southbury, Conn., has been appointed treasurer and tax counsel of Timex Corp., where he has served as tax counsel and director of taxes since 1994. He and Ellen have six children. Larry D. Hancock, ’83, MPA ’93 (Sherry), Sandy, Utah, has been named chief executive officer of Altius Health Plans.

1985 Michael D. Bahr, ’85, MS ’87 (Tamara), American Fork, Utah, has been named president and chief actuary of Altius Health Plans.

1986 Peter J. Valcarce, ’86, Salt Lake City, founded Arena Communications, a national political consult- ing company that has been named one of America’s entrepreneurial growth leaders by Inc. magazine.

1991 Brian S. Breinholt, ’91 (Terri Lisonbee, ’87), Germantown, Md., has been named senior director of human resources for ExecuStay by Marriott, the corporate housing division of Marriott International. Sonny W. Morris, ’91 (Cheryl Sagers, ’93), Roanoke, Va., was promoted to senior associate at Brown, Edwards, & Co. Morris joined the accounting firm eight years ago.

1994 Jeffrey J. Droubay, ’94, JD ’01 (Amy Holland, ’97), Brigham City, Utah, is a new associate at Parsons Behle & Latimer where he will practice commercial, employment, and environmental litigation. Matthew D. Smith, ’94 (Kathryn Hales, ’95), Purcellville, Va., received an MBA in information and decision support systems from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is a senior analyst with Vector Research.

1995 Ann B. Gordon, JD ’95, Henderson, Nev., was married in the Las Vegas Temple to Jim Murray on Dec. 1, 2001. She is an assistant district attorney for Clark County, Nev., and has four children. Jedediah W. Jones, ’95, MD Indiana University ’99, Indianapolis, is in an orthopedic surgery residency at Indiana University. Lance D. Madigan, ’95 (Sara), Lehi, Utah, is the new marketing and public relations coordinator for Listen Technologies. Previously, he worked eight years at the National Kidney Foundation of Utah.

1996 Susan P. Chasson, JD ’96 (Jean- Francois), Provo, was named one of 10 national recipients of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Community Health Leadership Program Award. She was instrumental in starting the Children’s Justice Center, an organization serving abused children in Provo.

1997 Jeffrey A. Flint, ’97, Hoffman Estates, Ill., has been promoted to director of operations for Proactive Worldwide. He is an adjunct professor at Dominican University. Barbara J. Jones, ’97, Pasadena, Calif., received her doctor of medicine degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine in 2001 and is in a psychiatry residency at the University of Southern California. Rick W. Winward, ’97 (Sarah Palfreyman, ’96), Springville, Utah, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston College of Optometry as valedictorian. He practices at eye clinics in Springville and Provo, Utah. He and Sarah have two children.

1998 Peter J. Christensen, ’98, MPA ’00 (Allyson Kovacs, ’98), Aurora, Ill., is the new managing editor of Government Finance Review, the journal of the Government Finance Officers Association in Chicago. He served previously as a financial analyst for the city of Sierra Vista, Ariz. Andrew P. Cook, ’98 (Cara Rasmussen, ’98), Sherwood, Ore., earned his law degree cum laude at Georgetown University and has joined Miller Nash’s Portland office as a new associate. Aaron Wettstein, ’98, MBA University of Phoenix ’01 (Amanda), Mesa, Ariz., is the director of enrollment for the online division of global management for the University of Phoenix, where he oversees 500 enrollment advisors nationwide.
