Olympic Speed

IT has been nearly a year since the world’s attention turned to Utah for the Winter Games, but on the Wasatch Front, the Olympic fanfare is still echoing. In one of those echoes, BYU Magazine received a gentle nudge of correction from a BYU graduate who was left out of the list of former Winter Olympians in the winter 2002 issue (p. 36).

William J. Schenker Jr., ’86, raced down the slopes of Japan in the 1998 slalom competition in Nagano. Representing Puerto Rico, Schenker turned 40 during the Games and finished 31st in his event, eight weeks after his 11th knee operation. Schenker is now a professional actor who satisfies his need for speed by racing a 1999 Mazda Miata.
