1955 | Lloyd S. Cluff (’55; San Francisco) was the guest speaker at the 13th Mallet Milne Lecture for the Society for Earthquake and Civil Engineering Dynamics. He has been recognized by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute with the George W. Housner Medal and the Western States Seismic Policy Council Award in Excellence. He is a world-renowned expert in earthquake geology.

1967 | Jan G. Otterstrom (BA ’67, JD Gonzaga University ’72, MBA INCAE Business School ’92; Palmares Alajuela, Costa Rica), a Hart-Larson Poetry Contest winner, has published his sixth book of poetry, Gatherings.

1975 | V. Lowry Snow (BS ’75, JD Gonzaga University ’79; Sheryl Crawford [BS ’94]; Santa Clara, Utah), a partner in the St. George law firm of Snow Jensen & Reece, has announced his intention to seek the Utah State House of Representatives seat. He has served as chair of the Washington County Economic Development Council.

1976 | Bruce A. Bishop (BA ’76; Vonita Hicks [BS ’75]; Etna, Calif.) was honored as Siskiyou County’s Middle School Principal of the Year for 2010–11 and for the same period went on to win the Association of California School Administrators Region 1 Middle Grades Principal of the Year. Tom E. Haraldsen (BA ’76; Sylvia; Kearns, Utah) published his first young adult novel, Dreaming of Hope. He is a newspaper editor and serves as Utah Headliners Chapter president for the Society of Professional Journalists.

1978 | Michelle Milne King (BA ’78; Steven D. [BFA ’79]; Bountiful, Utah) hosts the Mormon Times show, which airs Sunday mornings on KSL TV. The show shares the stories and testimonies of well-known LDS authors, artists, and musicians, as well as everyday members. She took the position after she and her husband returned from presiding over the Georgia Atlanta North Mission.

1979 | Robert D. Griffiths (BA ’79, MPP Harvard University ’82; Jeanne Decker [BS ’82]; Shanghai) has been appointed U.S. Consul General in Shanghai. He has had a 28-year career with the U.S. Foreign Service, serving in Colombia, Taiwan, Thailand, and China.

1981 | D. Ron Anderson (BS ’81, MS ’83, MD University of Utah ’87; Swan Tan [AA ’70]; Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) was elected to the board of directors of Southern California Permanente Medical Group, a 5,500-physician medical group providing medical care to 3.3 million people in Southern California. Flint J. Stephens (BA ’81, MA ’87; Anette Leavitt [BS ’91]; Highland, Utah) has published Mormon Parenting Secrets: Time-Tested Methods for Raising Exceptional Children. The book explains how parents today can understand and apply basic principles to connect more effectively with their children.

1982 | Michael C. Perry (BA ’82; Sharon; Tallahassee, Fla.) has authored The Miracle of Mirador, part one of the Daniel Light and the Children of the Orb series. He is also a seasoned actor, performer, composer, and playwright as well as a director of more than 40 shows. James R. Pratt (BA ’82, JD ’85; Debra Moss [AS ’82]; Winter Park, Fla.) has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2012 for his work in real estate law. He is a partner in the Winter Park, Fla., office of Burr & Forman.

1983 | Kyle D. Latimer (BA ’83, JD University of Utah ’86; Mary Christensen [BA ’81]; Beijing) is serving as the resident legal advisor at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. His purpose is to advance criminal-justice reform by providing expertise on U.S. criminal law and procedure to government officials and legal scholars in the People’s Republic of China.

1984 | Don R. Capener (BA ’84, MIM Thunderbird School of Global Management ’85, PhD International School of Management ’11; Annie; Monmouth, Ill.) graduated with honors from the PhD program with an emphasis in Asian business at the International School of Management. He also married Annie Marshall, formally of Hillsboro, Ore. He was selected as the new dean of the Davis College of Business at Jacksonville University in Florida. Karen Larsen Ellis (BA ’84, MLS ’85; Jimmy B. [BS ’85]; Taylor, Texas) is the editor of the book Partnerships and Collaborations in Public Library Communities: Resources and Solutions, which shows how libraries can form and cultivate partnerships with local organizations through projects, programming, funding, and more. Edgar C. Snow Jr. (BA ’84, JD University of Tennessee ’87, LLM Boston University ’88; Dina; Alpharetta, Ga.) has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2012 for his work in the industries of banking and finance law and securitization and structured finance law. He is a partner in the Atlanta office of Burr & Forman.

1986 | Eric T. Luke (BS ’86; Kathryn Hansen [AS ’83]; Farmington, Utah) was promoted to president and chief executive officer of Varsity Facility Services, where he started working in 1989. Previously he worked for Arthur Andersen and Andersen Consulting.

1987 | Robert R. Capener (BA ’87; Portland, Ore.) is the marketing director for basketball at Adidas. He also had a picture taken with NBA Most Valuable Player Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls.

1988 | Brian D. Baxter (BA ’88, MPA University of Utah ’97; Kristy Roundy [’92]; Charlotte, N.C.) was hired as vice president of human resources at InVue Security Products in Charlotte, N.C.

1989 | Rebecca Day Tuckfield (’89; David J. [BA ’85, JD ’89]; Austin, Texas) has been certified as a volunteer child advocate for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over abused and neglected children in the legal and social service system.

Checketts (BA ’93, MBA ’95; Page Clark [BS ’91]; Provo) is vice president of support services at EMC Corporation and was given responsibility to build and manage the company’s new 500-person operation in Draper, Utah. Prior to EMC he was the COO at Mozy.

1994 | Scott Z. Crawford (BA ’94, MS University of Louisville ’03, PhD University of Louisville ’07; Shelley; Wichita, Kan.) was named Sport Management Practitioner of the Year for 2011 by the sport management program at Wichita State University. Crawford is the commissioner of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

1995 | Janeen Golightly Diamond (BA ’95; Scott; Murray, Utah) has published her first book, Save Your Marriage in 30, which offers her personal advice and experience on maintaining a healthy marriage. She also produces TV commercials and programming.

1996 | Shawn A. Gillies (BS ’96, MS University of Kentucky ’98; Suzanne Benson [AAS ’94, BS ’96]; Maple Valley, Wash.) participated in a trip to do humanitarian work in Gulu, Uganda. There he was an influence for good, especially with one young man whom he offered his own Sunday clothes to wear to receive the priesthood.Melinda Noble Grenier (BS ’96; Kenneth; New Market, Md.) was reelected to serve as the president of the Maryland Criminal Justice Association, the Maryland chapter of the American Correctional Association.

1997 | Stephanie Hall Meredith (BA ’97, MA ’99; Justin T. [’01]; Canton, Ga.) participated in an international diplomacy trip to Russia to provide expertise on Down syndrome. She also has coauthored the book Diagnosis to Delivery: A Pregnant Mother’s Guide to Down Syndrome and authored the booklet Understanding a Down Syndrome Diagnosis.

1998 | Michael D. Fielding (BA ’98, JD ’01; Tammy; Independence, Mo.) has been named partner with Husch Blackwell. His practice has focused on commercial bankruptcy. He is a candidate for the 4th District City Council seat in Independence, Mo.

1999 | Scott S. Bell (BA ’99, JD Duke University ’04; Brittany; Sandy, Utah) has been named a shareholder in Parsons Behle & Latimer. He is a member of thelitigation department and concentrates his practice on commercial and business litigation, media law, health care law, and antitrust law.

2002 | Krystal K. Baker (BA ’02; Pleasant Grove, Utah) was selected as one of 165 journalism teachers nationwide and one of three from Utah to attend the 2011 Reynolds High School Journalism Institute—a national journalism teaching conference—in Reno, Nevada. Sara Ogden Nielson (BA ’02, JD ’11; Kollin S. [BS ’03]; Heber City, Utah) has joined the law firm of Parr Brown Gee & Loveless as an associate. She has also been selected to complete a clerkship for the Honorable Justice Thomas R. Lee (BA ’88) of the Utah Supreme Court.

2003 | Blaine R. Blood (BA ’03, JD University of Kentucky ’06, LLM George Washington University ’09; Jaimee; Crestwood, Ky.) has been appointed to serve as vice-chair of the Louisville Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section for 2012. He has experience handling labor law matters and is a member of Greenebaum Doll & McDonald’s labor and employment practice group.

2004 | Jeffrey M. Sanchez (BS ’04, JD ’11; Kristin; Draper, Utah) has joined the Salt Lake City office of Parsons Behle & Latimer. He is a member of the litigation department and focuses his practice on commercial and business litigation, intellectual property law, and health care law.

2006 | Haroon Stephen (PhD ’06; Las Vegas) has joined the civil and environmental engineering faculty at University of Nevada, Las Vegas as an assistant professor. He continues to serve as director of the geographic information systems and remote sensing core lab at the university.

2009 | Bryan A. Jack (BS ’09, MAcc ’09; Lydia; Stansbury Park, Utah) has been promoted to audit and business advisory services senior for Tanner LLC, Utah’s largest locally owned professional audit, tax, and consulting services firm. He serves clients in a variety of industries including construction, manufacturing, and online retailing.
