1960 | Roy L. Rummler (BS ’60, MME University of New Mexico ’68, EdD University of Wyoming ’74; Sally; Nampa, Idaho) published The Wrong Bottom Line and How to Change It, a book of leadership strategies and exercises. Rummler, a retired superintendent, also publishes choir arrangements.

1961 | J. Richard Schmid (BA ’61, MA ’63, PhD Iowa State University ’73; Sherry; Ogden, Utah), an associate technical fellow at Boeing, retired after 33 years with the company.

1966 | Robert N. Ballard (’66; Trudie; Salt Lake City) published I’ll Die Before You’re Born, an imaginative historical novel involving love and time travel.

1967 | Jack H. Peterson (BS ’67, MS ’69; Linda Seeley [BS ’67]; Mesa, Ariz.) received the Distinguished Faculty Award during Mesa Community College’s 2006 fall convocation. He has taught college for 38 years.

1970 | Richard B. West (BA ’70, MBA Webster University ’89; Dawn; Yuma, Ariz.) has been appointed principal of Southwest Junior High School in San Luis, Ariz.

1971 | Richard D. Miller (BS ’71; Los Angeles) walked the red carpet for the 31st time in February at the Academy Awards. As the awards administration director for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, he produces and writes the Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards show and heads the Student Academy Awards program, an international film competition for college and university filmmakers.

1972 | Mack L. Langston (BS ’72, JD South Texas College of Law ’76; San Diego) has been with Langston & Low since 1999. The team was recruited by Lee & Associates to form the Multifamily Advisory Group.

1973 | S. Frederick Feller (BS ’73, JD University of California ’76, MBA U.S. Army War College ’85, MPA U.S. Army War College ’85; Mari Benson [AA ’73]; Lakewood, Wash.) was honored at his retirement in April for 34 years of military service in the Army Reserve. For the last three years, Colonel Feller has served as the staff judge advocate of the 70th Regional Readiness Command, located at Fort Lawton in Seattle.

1974 | Paul M. Magleby (BS ’74; Cathy Martin [’91]; Lindon, Utah), founder and president of Magleby Companies, was named the first Custom Home Builder of the Year by the National Association of Home Builders in October 2006.

1975 | David T. Porter (BS ’75, MS ’77, EdD University of Hawaii ’93; Lorrie Parker [’79]; Laie, Hawaii), a professor of exercise and sports science and BYU–Hawaii’s tennis coach, has been named one of three recipients of the 2006 Tennis Educational Merit Award from the United States Tennis Association. Porter coaches both the men’s and women’s tennis teams and has won 10 national championships.

1976 | Hugh M. Christensen (BS ’76; Joyce Smith [BS ’70]; Encinitas, Calif.) received the Silver Beaver Award in February 2007 from the San Diego-Imperial Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Michael B. Fillerup (BA ’76, MA Arizona State University ’78, EdD Northern Arizona University ’96; Rebecca Rowley [BA ’76]; Flagstaff, Ariz.), as a 2005–06 Fulbright scholar, spent 10 months living and working in Oaxaca, Mexico, to increase mutual understanding between the people of Mexico and the United States. Thomas C. Perry (BA ’76, MPA ’78; Ann Burdick [’81]; Richland, Wash.), a senior nuclear analyst for the Government Accountability Office (GAO), received the Meritorious Service Award from the GAO for outstanding performance analyzing and reporting on the Department of Energy’s nuclear waste cleanup program.

1977 | Ronald J. Bellus (BA ’77; Giná; Gilbert, Ariz.) is the new general manager of Arizona Capitol Television, the Arizona legislature’s statewide version of C-SPAN.

1980 | Steven C. Christopher (BA ’80, MBA University of Phoenix ’93; Milana; Salt Lake City) is the owner of the Souvenir Stop at Temple Square, which will be relocated to Main Street due to the City Creek Center development. E. Victoria Grover (MA ’80; Wade, Maine) was awarded the Business and Professional Woman of the Year in 2006 by the Maine chapter of Business and Professional Women/USA.

1983 | Gustaf R. Andreasen (BA ’83, JD ’87; Jennifer; Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) rejoined the firm of Howard & Howard Attorneys. He will practice corporate law, business law, public sector law, and real estate development. Kenneth L. Larson (BIS ’83; Carol; Los Angeles) has written, illustrated, and published Celestial Visitors, Measured Worlds and the New Jerusalem.

Joseph N. Mott (BS ’83, MBA ’85; Ellen Sampson [BS ’79]; Bountiful, Utah) has been appointed new chief executive officer of Primary Children’s Medical Center, where he has worked for 15 years. He was named chief operating officer in 2003. R. Alan Whitehurst (BS ’83, MS Johns Hopkins University ’86, PhD University of Illinois ’95; Bonnie; Buena Vista, Va.), chief technology officer and associate professor of computer science at Southern Virginia University, has been named program coordinator of a new computer science degree program at SVU.

1985 | Kevin M. Bergen (BA ’85, MA Pepperdine University ’01; Tracy; Torrance, Calif.), a licensed marriage and family therapist, has been named a partner at the Center for Counseling and Recovery, where he helps couples and works with pornography addictions and same-sex attraction issues. Tamara Lewis (BA ’85, MPA ’91, MD University of Utah ’89, MPH Medical College of Wisconsin ’98; Salt Lake City) was named a 2006 Health Care Hero by Utah Business magazine and also received a 2006 Public Health Hero Award from the Utah Public Health Association. She chairs the BYU Romney Institute advisory board.

1988 | Marc H. Bennett (BA ’88, MA ’93; Michelle; Salt Lake City) is the new president of the American Health Quality Association. Eric W. Chambers (BA ’88, MS ’91, PhD University of Notre Dame ’06; Renee Jenkins[BA ’95]; Snellville, Ga.) is an emerging-infectious-diseases research fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

1990 | Tobi D. Potestio (BS ’90, MEd ’94; JD University of Utah ’02; Murray, Utah) has been named a shareholder in the law firm of Parr Waddoups Brown Gee & Loveless.

1991 | David L. Baca (BA ’91; Miko Tasker [’96]; Murrieta, Calif.) was promoted to sergeant with the Murrieta Police Department in November 2006. Tom G. Hallaq (BA ’91, MA Eastern Washington University ’03, MEd Eastern Washington University ’04; Pocatello, Idaho), an assistant communications professor at Idaho State University, won a 2006 Aegis Award for the promotional video Coming Home: Mutual Self-Help Housing.Thomas E. Patterson (BA ’91, JD Washburn University ’96; Reta Semadeni [BA ’91]; Alpine, Utah) has been appointed by Utah governor Jon M. Huntsman to serve as executive director of the Utah Department of Corrections. Chris A. Schoebinger (BA ’91; Jennifer Matis [BS ’87]; Lehi, Utah) received Deseret Book Company’s Marvin J. Ashton Award for Excellence for taking three Shadow Mountain titles, Leven Thumps, Fablehaven, andChristmas Jars, to the national market.

1992 | Rodney A. Cortez (BA ’92, JD ’95; Marnie McRae [BA ’95]; Rancho Mirage, Calif.) was appointed to a judgeship in the San Bernardino County Superior Court by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Frank C. Wilson (BS ’92, MS ’94; Shelley Morgan [’98]; Queen Creek, Ariz.) won the 2007 “Texty” Textbook Excellence Award from the Text and Academic Authors Association for his textbook Finite Mathematics and Applied Calculus.

1994 | Cathy Carmode Lim (BA ’94; Marcelino [BS ’93]; Anniston, Ala.) is the book-page editor at the Anniston Star.

1995 | K. Shannon Bryer (BA ’95, MA Middlebury College ’03; Midland, Texas), a teacher at Midland Freshman High School, was selected from nearly 2,300 applicants to participate in the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program in Tokyo last October.Gennaro Fazio (BS ’95, MS ’97; Christine Watson [BA ’91]; Geneva, N.Y.), a geneticist with the USDA-ARS Plant Genetic Resources Unit, received the Early Career Scientist of the Year Award in Washington, D.C.

1996 | Jeremy T. Steele (BS ’96, JD Duke University ’00; Melanie; Quincy, Ill.) was promoted to assistant general counsel for Gardner Denver, a multinational company with operations in more than 30 countries.

1997 | Aaron M. Hardy (BS ’97, MS ’00; Gina Robinson [BS ’99]; Reno, Nev.), wellness coordinator for the Washoe County School District, received the Innovation in Prevention Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

1998 | Matthew J. Ball (BS ’98, JD University of Utah ’02; Shauna; West Jordan, Utah) has been named a shareholder in the law firm of Parr Waddoups Brown Gee & Loveless.Matthew L. Sandgren (BA ’98, JD University of Tulsa ’02, LLM George Washington University ’03; Kamae Bradburn [BA ’02]; Alexandria, Va.) was promoted to the position of counsel on the Judiciary Committee for Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah). Brian J. Smith (BA ’98; Wendi; Provo) was voted chairman of the Utah Youth Soccer Association District 5. He also serves on the boards of directors of the Utah Youth Soccer Association and the Utah County Strikers Soccer Club. Christy Rabino Stevenson (BA ’98; Ryan [BS ’00, MAcc ’00]; Pleasant Grove, Utah) published her first LDS fiction novel, Sunshine. She has also written for LDS Living magazine.

1999 | Shannon Johnson Hiller (BA ’99; Matthew; Las Vegas) was named partner in the Las Vegas office of Vanguard Media Group, a full-service public relations firm. Wade C. Lueck (BS ’99, MS ’01, PhD ’04; Ashley Bowen, [BS ’97]; Gilbert, Ariz.) was voted Teacher of the Year by the College of Eastern Utah student body for the second consecutive year. He was also honored with the 2006 Outstanding Engaged Scholar by the Utah Campus Compact. Jason C. Wilson (BS ’99, MS Washington University in St. Louis ’02; Sondra; Cedar City, Utah) was named hospital administrator for the Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City, Utah.

2000 | Bradley J. Wyatt (BA ’00, JD College of William and Mary ’04; Corie Hileman [BA ’00]; Holland, Mich.) has joined Warner Norcross & Judd as an associate in the law firm’s Grand Rapids, Mich., office.

2001 | Matthew L. Parry (BA ’01, MS Syracuse University ’03; Amanda Herbst [BS ’99]; Liverpool, N.Y.), a senior account executive in the public relations and public affairs practice at Eric Mower and Associates, joined the board of directors for the Frank H. Hiscock Legal Aid Society. Jeffery S. Tessem (BS ’01, Kathleen Boster [BS ’00]; Denver) received a PhD in molecular biology from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

2002 | Scott L. Halvorsen (BS ’02, JD UCLA ’05; Nicole Smith [BS ’02]; Las Vegas) joined Kummer Kaempfer Bonner Renshaw & Ferrario in February 2006 and practices in the transactional department in the firm’s
Las Vegas office.

2005 | David R. Coons (BS ’05; Teneal Gardner [BS ’02]; Wauwatosa, Wis.) received a 2006 summer fellowship to further his research on Latina mothers’ subjective and objective measurement of healthy childhood weight and nutrition. Alex R. McClean (BS ’03, BS ’03, MBA Case Western Reserve University ’06, JD Case Western Reserve University ’06; Joy Thompson [BS ’03]; Penfield, N.Y.) joined Harter Secrest & Emery as an associate in the law firm’s corporate group. J. Matt Throckmorton (BA ’05; Valerie; Nashville, Tenn.) is the new executive director for the Tennessee Charter Schools Association. He previously served in the Utah State Legislature from 1998 to 2003 as chief political consultant for Chapman, Windsor and Associates, and as an adjunct professor of political science at Utah Valley State College.
