This is not the Cody T. Hoffman (’14) catch that would become a finalist in the 2011 GEICO Play of the Year contest. That came 1.2 seconds later in the same play—after the ball was punched away by the Oregon State defender, tipped back up in the air, and finally secured by Hoffman, then lying on his back. In front of 200 friends and family who traveled from Hoffman’s hometown of Crescent City, Calif., to see him play, the sophomore wide receiver didn’t disappoint: he finished with nine receptions for 162 yards and a TD in BYU’s 38–28 victory over the Beavers. | Photography by Mark A.
