THIS year’s Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Award was presented to W. Steve Albrecht, ’71, professor of accounting and associate dean of the Marriott School of Management, at the Annual University Conference held on August 27. Cited by Accounting Today as one of the 100 most influential accounting professionals in the nation, Albrecht received the university’s highest faculty honor from university president Merrill J. Bateman. Albrecht spoke at a university forum on Tuesday, October 30, 2001.
The top staff employee honored at the conference was LaRita P. Johnson of the School of Family Life, who received the Fred A. Schwendiman Performance Award. When the School of Family Life was created from the old Family Sciences Department, Johnson used her creativity and hard work to smooth the transition from one budgetary unit into four separate units.
The top administrative employee honored was Cali A. O’Connell of the Lee Library, who was given the Ben E. Lewis Management Award. O’Connell was a key library representative during the design and construction of the library expansion and remodeling.
Forty-seven other faculty and staff members were honored with awards at the university conference for excellence in teaching, research, creative works, or citizenship.
