Junior Nina Puikkonen, a 6'3" middle blocker from Murray, Utah, was named the AVCA/Sports Imports Division I National Player of the Week for Sept. 4-8, 2000—a week in which she led BYU to three wins over top-20 teams. She is the second BYU women's volleyball player ever recognized as national player of the week. (Former Cougar middle blocker Amy Steele Gant earned the award for Oct. 30-Nov. 5, 1996.)

Senior Billy Harvey, Las Vegas, was named one of two Rolex College Golfers of the Month for September after winning the individual title at the William H. Tucker Invitational, where he led BYU to the team title. He was named the Golf World Collegiate Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 22 and ranked 18th in the Oct. 4 edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. He was also named Golf World's Collegiate Player of the Week on March 31, 2000.
