FOR THE RECORD BOOKS

As the Tuesday morning devotional speaker on Oct. 17, 1995, President Gordon B. Hinckley drew the largest crowd ever for an activity in the Marriott Center: 25,875.

The previous record for the 23,000-capacity arena was set in 1979 when President Spencer W. Kimball addressed a throng of 25,543.

To put things in perspective, in 1992, President George Bush attracted 15,089; in 1991, President Ronald Reagan pulled in 10,444; and the average attendance for the first 10 BYU home basketball games this season was 17,172.
