EMBRACING AN UPSET

BYU captains Max R. Hall (’10) and Jan M. Jorgensen (’10) celebrate after the no. 20 Cougars shocked no. 3 Oklahoma to open the 2009 season. The 14–13 come-from-behind victory—played at the new $1.2 billion Dallas Cowboys Stadium—was the first time BYU has defeated a top-10 team since Ty Detmer’s Cougar squad knocked off no. 1 Miami in 1990. While the players and coaches celebrated on the field, fans in Provo organized a welcome-home party for the team. The evening culminated with hundreds of students meeting the team when it arrived at the Provo airport at 1:45 a.m.
