ADVERTISING REQUIREMENTS

BYU Magazine accepts a limited number of full-page advertisements (12 per issue, under normal conditions) that complement the magazine’s purpose by promoting BYU and its mission, building connections between the university and its constituencies, or furthering the education of the magazine’s readers. The following guidelines apply:

• Products and services advertised must be either BYU promotional or educational in nature. Examples of appropriate ads include the following:

BYU-promotional ads may feature products and services created or provided by BYU, as well as products created by approved outside companies using BYU logos or insignia.

Ads for educationally related products and services may promote educational institutions or services; career opportunities; BYU-approved student housing; and books, artwork, music, and DVDs and videos (at the publisher’s discretion; no R-rated movies; movie theatrical releases ads are not permitted).


• Ads and their subjects must be consistent with the ideals and teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

• The quality of the ad design must correspond to the visual appeal of the magazine.

• Ads for troubled-youth-reclamation (or similar) programs are not permitted in the magazine.

• Ads must meet the restrictions of the U.S. Postal Service for nonprofit mail. Credit card ads are not allowed. Ads for travel arrangements or insurance policies must be in accordance with the restrictions found in U.S. Postal Service Publication 417 (http://pe.usps.gov/cpim/ftp/pubs/Pub417/Pub417.pdf) and Federal Register Document 04-20185 (http://ribbs.usps.gov/files/fedreg/usps2004/04-20185.TXT).
